There’s a new craze in Bollywood and that’s stars penning their biographies. The latest buzz suggests that it’s not just Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who is toying with the idea of putting her life into words but also Rajnikanth and Shilpa Shetty and here’s what you expect from these books.

Rajnikanth

What you will get: The rise of the man from nowhere to becoming one of the most powerful men in the Indian film industry, his marriage and never ending fan following all over the world.

What you won’t get: His not so cordial relationship with quite a few actors down South and alleged alliances with numerous actresses.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

What you will get: The actress’ biography is already drawing attention from international publishers in the US and UK. The book is expected to discuss in great detail her life as a model, an actress, her marriage into the Bachchan family and life after marriage.

What you won’t get: We doubt the book will shed any light about her tumultuous relationship with Salman Khan or how she unceremoniously cut Vivek Oberoi out of her life.

Shilpa Shetty

What you will get: Her career in Bollywood, her hook up with Akshay Kumar and what happened there and of course her win in Big Brother.

What you won’t get: The alleged marriage with Akshay Kumar, details about her nose job and whether her current beau Raj Kundra left his wife for Shilpa!

Biographies we want to read and why:

Salman Khan – On how he is still the most loved bad boy of Bollywood.

Shah Rukh Khan – On how he has managed to become more popular than Tom Cruise

Sanjay Dutt – On how he manages to fall in love so easily… and so often!

Preity Zinta – On how she went from Criminal Psychology to Cannes regular!

Rakhi Sawant – On playing the victim and getting away with it every time!

The moment one lays hands on the music album of U Me Aur Hum, one tends to exclaim 'Thank God'. And this happens even before one is through listening to the entire soundtrack. Reason? There is literally a draught of new music arriving in the market with the last notable arrivals being, Jodhaa Akbar and Race that came in January. With future not looking too exciting either in terms of any major albums hitting the stands, all eyes are set on U Me Aur Hum, which is expected to make some music. Pun intended!

There are reasons associated with the project in itself too which make U Me Aur Hum interesting. Vishal Bhardwaj is known for his quality score that always has a touch of classic elements, whether Indian or Western. This time around, instead of Gulzar who is a regular with Bhardwaj, relative newcomer Munna Dhiman has been roped in as a lyricist.

Also, this is the first romantic film for Ajay Devgan and Kajol after Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha which had boasted of some memorable tracks. And if the promotion of the film is any indication, audience is bound to expect a quality outing, both from the film and music perspective. Well, the expectations are much more than meant as U Me Aur Hum turns out to be a perfect Valentines outing.

Addictive. This is how one can describe the opening number of 'Sunday' - 'Jee Le' - in one word! Apart from the fact that Munna Dhiman doesn't let one miss the poetry of Gulzar saab with his real-to-life lyrics, music of Vishal Bhardwaj too takes the kind of twists and turns which are associated with the style that he has been known for ever since he first made a splash with Maachis. Though the promos so far have given an indication that 'Jee Le' is purely an Adnan Sami number, it actually is a duet with Shreya Ghoshal giving him just the perfect company.

'Jee Le' is a love ballad which takes on a carnival touch at places though refraining from going overboard. With a Spanish flavor associated with it, 'Jee Le' is a number that catches on you within a couple of hearings and stays on to make for a melodious piece of music, which works on every listening. And thankfully, there is no remix version which could have potentially diluted the impact.

Trademark Vishal Bhardwaj sense of music is quite apparent with the way Shreya Ghoshal goes about singing the title song U Me Aur Hum. And no, though the song's title gives an impression of an out and out English outing on it's way, that's not the case. Shreya Ghoshal compliments Vishal's serene musical sense coupled with Munna Dhiman's simple lyrics quite well. She sings U Me Aur Hum in a way, which could draw parallels with Asha Bhonsle's 'Katra Katra' [Ijazat].

There is an inherent class in the proceedings of U Me Aur Hum, which makes one internalize the song and feel good about it being played around it. Arrangements for the song create a calm feel, which by itself gets a romantic mood on. It's a beautiful track that is as melodious as it gets and flows in a direction, which is opposite to the 'high-on-beats' tracks that are otherwise the order of the day. Surprisingly though, there is a male voice heard singing a couple of lines in English at the beginning and end but is not credited.

Later towards the end of the album, Vishal Bhardwaj himself decides to come behind the mike and come up with his own rendition of U Me Aur Hum. It makes for an even better experience since a) one gets to hear a fresh voice hitherto unheard and b) there is just a guitar in the background, which makes one concentrate entirely on the melody, flow, and feel of the song. Superb!

Sunidhi Chauhan makes her debut in U Me Aur Hum with ‘Saiyaan’, which makes a shift from the overtly mushy-n-romantic mood of the album and takes the listener to a world of pep and fun. Now this is a kind of song, which should be coming next in the film's promotional campaign since it marks a deviation from what one has heard and seen of the film so far. Also, the track promises a fun outing as it showcases Kajol jest fully teasing her husband about the kind of 'Saiyaan' he has turned out to be after marriage.

Again, just in true tradition of Vishal Bhardwaj's style of composing songs, the track moves in a serpentine fashion while consciously moving away from anything pedestrian or basic. Also, credit to Munna Dhiman for writing something as witty as ‘Saiyaan’, which is bound to make the number fun to watch on the fun screen.

The sound of guitar heard in the first 10 seconds of 'Phatte' is the same as one heard in Pritam's 'Halka Halka' [Chocolate]. However, this is the only duration where there is any similarity between the two songs and soon after the song turns out to be a husband-wife fun dual as Adnan Sami and Sunidhi Chauhan get into a Punjabi-Hindi rendition.

Though the number is based on Punjabi folk with 'bhangra' beats intact, 'Phatte' still manages to stay away from the stereotype courtesy a different mood and setting. It would be fun to watch how Kajol carries herself in the song as one would look expect her real life chemistry with hubby Ajay to be exposed in entirety here.

After the opening number 'Jee Le', Adnan Sami and Shreya Ghoshal return with 'Dil Dhakda Hai'. Yes, this turns out to be their second straight hit in the album as the song brings in a different flavor with it and turns out to be a guaranteed popular number in the making. The song gets the right rhythm in place while not letting go of an intrinsic melodic mood of the album. A number about a couple realizing their love for each other though refraining from getting overtly mushy about the state of affairs and taking it rather lightly, 'Dil Dhakda Hai' is yet another engaging number which is bound to not just sound but even look good.

U Me Aur Hum is as much as Vishal Bhardwaj’s album as Munna Dhiman's. The lyricist had big boots to fill while coming in place of Gulzar Saab but he doesn't disappoint even one bit. On the other hand, singers like Adnan Sami, Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan deliver their best to come out of their comfort zone and do something different for a soundtrack which breaks away from the stereotype and brings in a fresh sound.

Go for U Me Aur Hum - this one is going to be played on for many months to come!

Action, comedy, romance, drama...in 2008

It's time for some 'Dhoom 3' and a lot more as Abbas Mustan turn to some serious action with Race. A high adrenalin ride which comes with actors jumping from 20 floors, fast moving cars tumbling on highways, aerial stunts being the order of the day and one lover boy (Saif Ali Khan) getting an image makeover, Race is already carrying great reports. With hot bods like Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy going all out to soar the temperatures, Race is creating some heat already en route to it's 21st March release.

Meanwhile, Yash Raj Films who started it all with Dhoom have yet another 'masala' action film, Tashan, ready for release. Though Saif Ali Khan is the common factor between Tashan and Race, presence of a certain Akshay Kumar has further made a bigger difference to the prospects of this first Yash Raj release of 2008. The production house is looking for a successful Box Office outing, especially after no-show of Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle. Tashan seems to be a definite shot in the arm as it arrives on April 25.

Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Kevin J O’Connor
Direction: Paul Thomas Anderson
Rating: ***

What most of us seek from cinema is emotional sustenance – we want to be with men and women we can admire, be amused by or even detest. Now, Daniel Day-Lewis is an oil tycoon in the America of the 1920s, who has a deep hatred for most people and thinks he can justify that by making pots of money, which he does.

In other words, There will be Blood adapted from an Upton Sinclair novel, hinges for more than two-and-a-half hours on the story of Daniel Plainview who absolutely loathes humankind -- to the extent of caring a damn if his adopted son’s hearing is impaired after an accident.

This man who would be demigod cares for no one but himself, and is self-reliant to get over his hurts and wounds without expecting anyone’s sympathy or care.

Ordinarily, such a character would not have rooted your interest after a while. He is a kind of a megalomaniac Citizen Kane but without Orson Welles’ manic brilliance.

If we stay with the cheating, greed-driven, woman-hating oil king, it’s essentially because he is played superbly by Day-Lewis. Chances are that he will grab his second Oscar (after My Left Foot) for this performance which could have ruined by a lesser accomplished actor.

Throughout ,the production design and cinematography are of the highest technical order. The unusual electronic background music by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, helps considerably in giving the epic an edge. None of the supporting players is worth writing home about, except perhaps for O’Connor who fetches up, claiming that he’s the tycoon’s step-brother. Incidentally, the film’s end is a bit of a let-down.

Still, the movie’s worth look because of Day-Lewis who’s guaranteed to make your matinee.

Sanjay Kapoor got into film production with a film to be written and directed by Anees Bazmee featuring Harman Baweja and Genelia D'Souza. That was a year ago. The project is yet to kick-off.

Reason: after No Entry and Welcome, Bazmee is committed to several projects and can't make time for even a script narration.

Too busy to script this Hindi remake of the Siddharth-Genelia Bommiralu, Telugu starrer Bazmee handed over the writing to Mayur Puri. Puri has been working on the script for months now but Bazmee's too rushed for time to sit with him on the project.

We're told that he recently took Puri with him to Norway where a couple of songs for the film were to be picturised. But even there he couldn't make time for him.

Not a copy
Explaining the situation Bazmee says, "Although it's a remake, I don't want the film to be a frameto-frame copy. Also, apart from a director, I'm also a writer and satisfying a writer-director is always far more difficult. Yes, I agree that I was tied up earlier but I have started collaborating with Mayur. I've given him my inputs and he's re-working the script accordingly ."

It's strange that though the script is not ready Bazmee is filming the songs?

"Since it's a remake we know exactly where the songs come in," the director explains.

The film is still untitled but Bazmee promises that it will be out by the end of the year.

"I've only one schedule left of Singh Is Kingg which toplines Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Once I'm through with that film I'll start work on this remake," he asserts.

/photo.cms?msid=2814788One look at Shah Rukh Khan’s filmography and you will notice that most of his films have received the best of reviews. Another look at the films made by critics and you will notice the common element in most of them is the Shah Rukh Khan factor. So while it is a fact that Shah Rukh has received much critical acclaim, there’s also no denying to the fact that critics have exploited enough of SRK’s fame.

The most recent example of this could be Samar Khan’s film Shaurya starring Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose and Minissha Lamba. Shah Rukh will make a special appearance in the film towards the end, reciting poems. Popular television film critic turned filmmaker Samar Khan says, “ Shaurya didn’t have any role for Shah Rukh. But when the film was complete, I felt there was something missing. Something special was absent. Hence for this film I knew that I just wanted SRK to be in it. Then came the poem part and I approached him to recite it."

Samar continues, "SRK can never say no to anyone. Besides when he heard the lines of the poem he was so taken by it that he just agreed to do it on the spot”. So a small offbeat film like Shaurya gets that extra star value even when Shah Rukh comes in for a 2 minute recital.

Samar Khan’s previous film Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye too had Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo. King Khan couldn’t help that film much with his presence since much harm was done by the time he arrived in the picture. Samar can only pray that history doesn’t repeat itself now.

When another popular film critic Khalid Mohammed turned towards filmmaking, Shah Rukh Khan featured in his wish list too. Shah Rukh was supposed to do an item number in Khalid’s debut film Fiza , on the track Gaya Gaya Dil when male item numbers were still not recognized. Unfortunately since the length of the film went over 3 hours 15 minutes, his song was chopped off at the last moment.

However that didn’t discourage Khalid from approaching Shah Rukh for a second time in his third film Silsiilay where he finally played the sutradhar. Silsiilay was about three parallel stories that were connected together by Shah Rukh who played a host to the film introducing and interlinking the characters. Unfortunately this time too his presence didn’t help the film which bombed badly at the box-office. Which makes us ponder whether SRK is jinxed for the critics?

Is that the reason another popular film critic turned filmmaker Kunal Kohli never had Shah Rukh Khan in his films. And if you come to think of it, all his films from Hum Tum to Fanaa have worked well. Even Mujhse Shaadi Karogi worked well in the overseas market.

Of course we know that the script and direction is what matters in the end, but in an industry ruled by myths, superstitions and fallacy, the fate of Shaurya will decide if Shah Rukh Khan is jinxed for film critics turned filmmakers.

He may be Bollywood's Best Bubbly Male, but tonight actor Shah Rukh Khan was acknowledged for his new serious avatar in Chak De India ! The man won the Filmfare Best Actor in a leading role (male) Award leaving behind his co-nominees - Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Shahid Kapur. Having achieved two nominations this year ( Chak De and Om Shanti Om ), SRK stated that every role is close to his heart, and if asked to choose between the two flicks, he really had no preferences. "We're not here to win awards. I only like to entertain, and when I make someone smile I feel happy." Though at his rudest best as host and MC, Shah Rukh was kind in his winning speech and generously thanked the people behind his 'success'.

The Best Actor Award in a leading role (Female) went to Jab We Met 's bubbly Geet, Kareena Kapoor, who today sang the geet of success. The girl looked lovely in her Manish Malhotra creation – off white sari and orange blouse. In her thank you speech, she said: I have three people to thank. They are responsible for this. The first is my director Imtiaz Ali, then the producers Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, and third is my co-star Shahid Kapoor. Interestingly, the Best Actor award was presented to her by none other than beau Saif, whom she thanked for presenting her with the award and making her night special.

Now, these are what we call timeless Filmfare moments.

MOVIE DETAILS

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, Kirron Kher
Director: Farah Khan
Producer: Gauri Khan
Music : Vishal Shekhar
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

THE FILM

The film would be remembered for many reasons apart from it's high entertainment value:

a) The promotional overdrive that Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan went on for weeks in advance of the release of the film. Truly, one can't remember when was the last time such vigor was seen for a movie which anyways was a guaranteed success in the making!

b) The so-called clash with Saawariya, which turned out to be such a no-show. The stage was set for a battle royale but Shah Rukh Khan's mere declaration of "I will destroy 'Saawariya'" spoke of great confidence that he had in the film and Farah's capabilities. Result was an anti-climax that saw Om Shanti Om marching ahead from show one with no competition/challenge whatsoever from Saawariya.

c) An amalgamation of one item sequence after another in the three-hour affair. Truly, Om Shanti OmM was a circus that had a dozen odd item sequences tying the script together and resulting in an amusing/entertaining watch.

d) Filmfare awards sequence. Truly the most innovative where no star/actor complained of the spoof at their expense.

e) 31 stars making an appearance for one single song and dance sequence - 'Deewangee Deewangee'. All of this added so much 'masala' to the entire sequence that one wonders how would Farah Khan get something better in her next project?

f) The Manoj Kumar episode where the veteran actor was offended by the joke around his mannerisms. The incident threatened to dilute the thunder created by the film at the stands but some timely intervention by Khan and a few industry seniors saved the situation from turning out rightly ugly.

g) Last but not the least, Shah Rukh Khan's six pack abs that have given business to many a body builders, instructors, dieticians and gym owners!

PACKAGING

The DVD currently on stands belongs to limited edition as it comes in a special cardboard case, which resembles a book. Inside the box is a two DVD case along with an autographed poster of Shah Rukh Khan in his now famous six-pack abs - straight from 'Dard E Disco'. In addition, there is a 16-page booklet, which takes a viewer through a colorful-n-eye catchy professional journey of cast and crew of the film.

DURATION

The film comes in a twin DVD pack with the film's duration being 162 minutes. The second DVD has special features lasting another 150 minutes.

SPECIAL FEATURES

- Director's Commentary
- Making of OSO
- Making of the songs
- SRK & Farah interviews
- Deleted scenes and bloopers
- Promos and Trailers
- Visual Effects
- OSO events (Music launch, Fashion show, London premier, Book launch)
- OSO Trivia Game

Om Shanti Om is one of the most fulfilling, or rather THE most fulfilling DVD, when it comes to special features. Reasons are aplenty with the most exciting being 'Director's Commentary'. For films coming out of India, there are hardly many where directors do take a special effort in coming up with a commentary talking about each and every scene. Heyy Babyy and Johnny Gaddaar are the only recent examples one can recollect. In addition, coming up with a commentary is challenging too since special consideration is required to retain viewer's attention.

In this context, Farah deserves full marks as she not thoroughly entertains a listener while not mincing words when it comes to making fun/light of most of the situations and actors in the film. She talks about number of things that either had gone wrong or could have gone wrong during filming of a particular scene. And she does all of it from her bedroom as she speaks while taking rest as she was 7 months pregnant when her commentary was recorded. Here are some of the highlights of the commentary:

a) She doesn't refrain from announcing once again that her is a filmy-filmy film and the intent was to go all out in making a commercial film rather than trying to be arty or pseudo.

b) How Shah Rukh Khan was challenged to utter his dialogues from DDLJ and Don while being in the same get up and hair as that of Rishi Kapoor from Karz (the opening scene of the film).

c) How Manoj Kumar's episode had threatened to turn ugly.

d) There is an obvious dig at Vidhu Vinod Chopra (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) when Farah announces that all protests against Shah Rukh Khan coming out of water with just his jeans on was hardly justified as those few seconds were far more entertaining than the other film makers' entire film.

e) How Arjun Rampal's wig gave her sleep less nights.

f) Introduction/references of close to 50 odd crew members who were in front of the camera acting at some point or other in Om Shanti Om

g) There is a word of appreciation for newcomer Uvika Chaudhary too as Farah believes that she has some way to go if she chooses her projects carefully. She goes to the extent of calling her a mix of Dia Mirza and Amisha Patel

h) How the main hall in the studio indoors, which was later burnt in the film, was inspired by Phantom Of The Opera

i) She clears the air around inspiration of famous Akshay Kumar 'Return of Khiladi' sequence which was reportedly plagiarized

j) Shirish Kunder's idea around showing Shah Rukh Khan walking back into his own memory in the second half of the film

....and many more!

The 'Making of OSO' intelligently refrains from back-patting and instead takes a viewer through the actual behind the scenes footage and what went into getting the right sets, costumes, make up, lighting dance moves etc. in place. The prime cast of the movie along with cinematographer Manikanandan, art director Sabu Cyril, costume designers Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra & Sanjiv Mulchandani take a viewer through their journey of making Om Shanti Om a complete 70's and today's package.

'Making of the songs' is an extensive view as well as Vishal & Shekhar along with Farah Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and others explain majority of songs from the film. One interesting factor, which is highlighted, is around the placement of film's most romantic number 'Aankhon Mein Teri'. It is revealed that originally, the song wasn't in the film at all but later Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan were so impressed by this new tune which Vishal & Shekhar created that they decided to incorporate the song as a part of the film's background score.

'Deleted scenes' are always the most awaited section of a DVD and here too there are many in abundance. Though a couple of them seem quite justified to be chopped off the final cut (the ones featuring Shah Rukh and Shreyas and later Shah Rukh and Kirron), there are at least two sequences that deserved to be a part of the footage. The funniest of the lot is the one where Shah Rukh in his superstar avatar is shown throwing starry tantrums by first coming late on the sets and then refusing to begin shooting on time.

Also the pre-Filmfare awards sequence had many other actors and technicians talking about super star 'Om'. Wish each of these were refrained, especially the one where Vidhu Vinod Chopra turned really catty. What did he say? See it on DVD!

There is a chapter on VFX too where good detailing is given around how Deepika's portions were interspersed with Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra for the 'Dhoom Taana' sequence. Interesting.

Though there are number of major events covered in the DVD - Music launch, Fashion show, London premier, Book launch - the one, which impresses most, is the London premier. If one has heard and read about mass hysteria for Shah Rukh Khan, this is the opportunity to see how it actually happens when he interacts with his fans. It is unbelievable to see the way crowds literally going berserk in their attempt to be with the star. What touches most is the way Khan not just waves and blows kisses with them but also breaks barrier to kiss and hug them.

For those who wish to check their 'Om Shanti Om' gyan, there is also an online trivia game comprising of 21 questions. And mind it, they are not one of those basic - 'What was the name of Arjun Rampal's character in OSO' kind of questions? Instead they get on really challenging. Sample this - "What was the name of Shah Rukh's on-screen character which was 'Mohabbat Man' for the rest of the world?"

However, we are yet to come to the best. And that segment is the one where Cyrus Broacha interviews Shah Rukh Khan, Farah Khan, Arjun Rampal and Deepika Padukone. Instead of a routine Q&A session, this one is a holds-no-bar fun conversation where Cyrus turns out to be the butt of everyone's joke. Watch Shah Rukh and the rest dressing him up in 70's costumes and coming up with one liners and numerous below the belt jokes, all at his expense!

- Subtitles In English
- Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo

CONCLUSION

Everyone knows what Om Shanti Om is all about. It is an unabashed take on entertainment, which is on your face, at places over-the-top and doesn't shy away from taking a dig on itself, Bollywood films and industry in general - all in good humor of course. It is this spoofy treatment to the film, which truly made 'Om Shanti Om' the 'Highest Bollywood Box Office Grosser Ever'. Of course, this pretty much mandates that the film finds an entry pronto in one's DVD collection.

The publicity campaign has not even started for Tashan but curiosity levels for the film are huge and we not talking about the trade but actual film going public. There are posters of Tashan at most multiplexes and certain single screens and it seems the public cannot wait for the film as enquiries are in thousands about the film from the public. This could be due to the fact the YRF have cleverly held back the music and promotion of the film that the public is desperate to find what the film is about. If one poster can create this sort of craze then its going to be something else by the time of release. The publicity campaign is expected to start in the first week of March and there is no doubt that will film create a stampede at the box office with opening day records being smashed all over India. Tashan stars current box office favourites Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor alongside Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor in a stellar role.

UTV has decided to to go to court after Jodhaa Akbar was suspended in Madhya Pradesh. UTV sent out a press release stating "We have today moved to the Madhya Pradesh (MP) High Court to lift the suspension on the screening of Jodhaa Akbar and we will take the matter to the Supreme Court if need be. The entire film industry, including producers, distributors and exhibitors are up in arms against this order of the State Government. The censor board has passed Jodhaa Akbar without any cuts and the onus is now on the respective authorities to ensure the film is screened across the country without disruption. We will fight this till the end."

The ruling party BJP in Madhya Pradesh decided to suspend the film yesterday in the state because they feared a law and order in the state.

Even though the ban is not really going to make a major dent in the earnings of Jodhaa Akbar as the film has recovered its total costs for UTV in just one week with a 14 crore share coming from India, 9 crore from Overseas and a minimum 20 crore for music, DVD/VCD and satellite rights, its commendable they are taking a stand despite legal costs probably being more than the income they would have got from MP from second week onwards.

/photo.cms?msid=2807721He sat casually on the off-white couch. It went well with his white shirt. Stylish dark glasses hid his intense eyes, and the picture of him with his daughter in the background bared his parental instincts. A green plant added to the décor, as did the feel good posters of U, Me Aur Hum . But something was missing. His wife! And just as I realized, she walked in. Dressed in grey pants and a smart woolen top, she looked graceful, her brown eyes covered by dark glasses just like hubby dearest'. She sat herself down next to him. Now, it was all picture perfect.

It was in the year 1999, on the 24th day of February that actors Ajay Devgan and Kajol decided to go the whole nine yards. And today celebrate nine years of their togetherness. How and when did they realise that they were meant for each other? "When you like a person, you initially don't tend to bank on the relationship entirely, because it could be just attraction," says Ajay, "But when you hold up for a long time, and you realise that this is the person you miss, and that this is the person who makes your day complete, you know it's love. When you don't question too much, become more accepting, get habituated to her, it's reason enough for you to want to go on and make her yours for life."

But most men do experience commitment phobia. Did Ajay go through it as well? "Never!" he states confidently. "It was but natural and gradual for us. Also, when you're about to take the 'big step', you need to get out of yourself, keep the love aside and think of it all practically. You ask yourself 'Am I getting carried away?', 'Is this what I really want?'... and when the answer is yes, you simply go ahead and most often, it'll work for life."

Kajol has a different story to tell. "Before I met 'Jay' (referring to Ajay obviously!), I was convinced that my parents would've to hold a gun to my head and take me to the altar. I never thought I'd have the guts to adjust into another home, lose my independence and identity, change my surname... But everything happened so fast. In October '98 we decided we'll get married, and on February 24 the next year we were husband and wife. It all happened so fast; and today all those things of changing your surname and losing your independence look like such little issues..."

Nine years is a long time. While idealists say they love their better halves more with each passing day, realists believe that marriage can sometimes be just a 'pact' and years later you've got to learn to 'bear' the other person. "That's silly," says Kajol, frowning a little. "When you make someone a part of your life, you do it out of choice. Just like you have your parents, or your sister, you now have a husband. We never get bored of our parents! And there is no 'other person' in a relationship. It's us. There's no you or me either. It's just a plain Hum. Your spouse becomes so much a part of your life that you grow together. You learn to give each other space and evolve in your own right as well. Marriage is no 'pact'. Yes, it's lovely that I am legally married. But a legal stamp on a relationship doesn't make a relationship. What makes a relationship is the two people involved in it."

And what happens when both people vowed in matrimony have bad tempers, just like Ajay and Kajol? Does it make things worse? "On the contrary, it makes things easier," avers Ajay, "You see, we fear each other's tempers, and prefer not to do something that may upset the other person. Honestly, Kajol and I rarely fight, and though we have a temper, we don't have egos. Whoever is in the wrong will come and apologise after a few minutes, or an hour, or even a day."
And what happens when a baby is born? "All hell breaks lose," says Kajol instantly. "It's an Oh-my-Gawd situation. It's sleep deprivation time; hormones are all over the place; the whole house is upside down; it's one huge circus. But the world changes for the better," she adds almost making up. "A baby changes everything," intrudes Ajay, "You suddenly find a new dimension. You now have two people to love - your wife and your child's mother. It's exciting. I'm very attached to Nysa. And I love watching Kajol take care of her. It makes for a very pretty picture."

"You know just like Ajay was born to act and direct, I was born to be a mother," informs Kajol. "I wanted to adopt a child since I was twelve years old. I used to tell dad, you have two daughters, why don't you adopt a son and I'll take care of him. My dad was happy with the idea, but mom wasn't. So, I thought when I'm 18 years old and legally entitled to adopt a baby, I would. But then it never happened. I got busy with films. For me, I knew my baby would be my world. There's no one else who can bring up a child better than me, that's my belief. I was adamant that I'd bring my baby up the way I want to, and no one else would have a say in it. I love being a mom. It's my identity!"

Does the 'star status' upset the normal upbringing of their daughter Nysa? "We are normal parents," says Kajol. "I try hard that the celeb status doesn't affect her. We set the boundaries." Ajay on the other hand is an overtly conscious dad. "Nysa today knows who I am and she is aware of who Kajol is. We try to keep her away from a lot of things, especially the film industry, but there's a limit to the things we can keep her away from," explains Ajay. "Also, Kajol and I aren't very social. But I don't want Nysa to be like me in that regard, I'd like it if she goes out, plays and makes friends." Any of their movies that Nysa has been an audience to? "We've tried to show her Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha . But it's pretty useless," says Kajol laughing, "I frown on screen and she begins to bawl. She can't ever see her mom cry. So I haven't dared to show her anything else," shares Kajol.

Nine years of marriage...how would the Devgans describe their journey? While Ajay says it has made him 'content', Kajol insists 'This is as good as it gets!" Aur picture abhi baaki hai mere dost!

Come August and an interesting battle is expected to ensue at the box office with Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar taking on each other. While 8th August has been the date decided by Vipul Shah for his Anees Bazmee directed SINGH IS KINNG, the release plans for KIDNAP are also out. As per the current schedule, KIDNAP would release on the same day as the Akki starrer i.e. 8th August.

While SINGH IS KINNG is a pucca masala fare in the offering and has all going in it's favor due to lethal Bazmee-Akii combination back in action after WELCOME, KIDNAP is no pushover either. Reason? It has director Sanjay Gadhvi (DHOOM, DHOOM:2) at the helm who is changing genres by getting into drama genre.

Roshan wants to stick to April 11 and wants his film to be the solo release during that week. However, Devgan too has been insisting an April 11 release.
