Yash Chopra’s directorial venture on hold till 2009. His choices SRK and Madhuri weren’t available

Will you leave me hanging? Yash Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan
Yash
Chopra is keen to get behind the camera for his directorial comeback.
Accord-ing to rumours, Chopra has a script and wants his two favourites, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, to play the lead roles in the film.

In limbo

A source reveals, “Yashji has been working on a script for quite some time now. The movie has the same tone as all his previous love stories; however, this one has a mature undertone. Beta Aditya has co-written the script. Yashji wanted to start his film before his son’s but Adi started shooting for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, earlier this month. This happened because the actors Chopra Sr wants for the project could give him the dates.”

SRK’s dates were with Karan Johar, but later those dates were given away to Adi The source continues, “Madhuri told Yashji to shoot the film in the US, as she wants to be close to her family. She doesn’t want to travel back to India. During the making of Aaja Nachle, Yash Raj Films built a crèche at the studio, so she could have her kids with her at all times. However this time, Madhuri feels that her kids will be happier in their environment rather than in India. That wasn’t possible, and Yashji had to put his plans on hold. He now wants to oversee his next mega film RNBDJ before starting his project.”

A spokesperson for Yash Raj Films says, “Yashji is definitely planning his next film. In all probability, the film will go on the floors next year. We haven’t decided who to cast as the movie is in scripting stages. As far as Madhuri being approached by us to do this film, it’s not true. He didn’t even meet her while she in town a few weeks back.”

The railway minister took home a cash prize of 1 crore

Talking the talk: Shah Rukh Khan and Lalu Prasad Yadav

The set of Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai was full of excitement and
anticipation on Thursday. The grand finale episode of Season One was
shot with guest celebrities Laloo Prasad Yadav, Priyanka Chopra and
Harman Baweja.

Upbeat

A source reveals that Shah Rukh was pretty upbeat and eager to meet the
railway minister, “SRK was heard talking days before about the finale
episode. He always enjoyed Laloo’s one-liners and his witty sense of
humour and now he was finally getting to grill him.”

Apparently, Laloo stunned everyone with his razor-sharp responses.
“When SRK said he was a fan of Laloo because of his intellect and
political wisdom, Laloo replied saying he was SRK’s airconditioner!
Interestingly, he didn’t use anycheat option from any of the students
ready to help him.”

Laloo hit the one crore jackpot and
donated his winnings to a railway charitable organisation. “He gave
many insights about his school days and loved the concept of the show
because of the educative angle.”

The
latest poster of Harman Baweja’s Love Story 2050 is strikingly similar
to Hrithik’s debut Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’s poster. The big question: Is it
deliberate?

The new poster of Love Story 2050

Harman Baweja has been ducking and dodging questions about how closely
he resembles Hrithik Roshan for a long time. But the newbie actor who
is ready with his first movie Love Story 2050 can’t seem to get the
comparisons to Hrithik out of the equation.

No coincidence

At the music release of the film held on Wednesday, Harman unveiled a
new poster for the film that reminds us of the Kaho Na Pyaar Hai poster
featuring Hrithik and Amisha. Not only is the pose similar, but also
the way the image stands out against the title font.

A source
says, “This can’t be a co-incidence. Everyone remembers the famous Kaho
Naa Pyaar Hai pose of Hrithik and Amisha. So it’s weird that Harman
would have overlooked the similarities and approved of the same design
for his poster.

Also it’s a known fact that the newcomer is
involved with the promotion and publicity of the film and personally
overlooks everything that is released.”

The real deal:

PC’s upset

Word is, Priyanka is quite upset with constant comparisons between
Harman and Hrithik. Says a source, “She feels that everyone is being
unfair to Harman by comparing him to Hrithik. Even after the promos of
the song Milo Na Milo came out, there were comparisons between his and
Hrithik’s dancing.

However, the similarities between the
posters the comparisons won’t die down and will instead add fuel to the
fire!” concludes the source.

Harman remained unavailable for comment.

Dutt refuses to give dubbing dates for Kidnap, which was supposed to be Imran's launch film

Sanjay
Dutt is not happy with the release of Imran Khan’s Jaane Tu Ya Jaane
Na. Aamir’s nephew was to be introduced in Dutt starrer Kidnap. But now
that will not be his first release.

This has not gone down well with Sanju, and he refused to give dates for the dubbing for Sanjay Gadhvi’s Kidnap.

Let down

The reason Dutt is unhappy is that Aamir’s nephew had even given him
his word that Kidnap would be his first release. Sanju mentored the
newcomer during the making of the film and is feeling let down.

An insider from the project says, “Sanju is irritated about the fact
that Imran kept him in the dark about the release date of Jaane Tu…. He
was under the impression that Kidnap would be Imran’s debut film, until
he heard otherwise.”

Taking ’em on

Another theory doing the rounds is that Aamir initially wanted to take
on Salman and release Ghajini on October 2 along with Sallu’s Wanted
Dead or Alive. However, Ghajini is now releasing on December 12 with
SRK starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Aamir wants to use Imran’s film to
give Salman a fight. “Sanju is not too happy with the October 2 release
date. This is another reason why he’s not dubbing for the film anymore.”

Sanjay however rubbishes the rumours, “Why should I be upset with Imran
about what he wants to do with his films? That’s his career. I am not a
control freak. As far as I am concerned, I have finished dubbing for
Kidnap.”

At her film’s premiere last night, even her dad was missing. Here’s why

Main akeli: Neha Uberoi

Sanjay Gupta’s niece Neha Uberoi won’t forget her 23rd birthday in a
hurry. While she was at the premiere of her film last evening (which
coincidentally was also her birthday), her family was conspicuous by
their absence.

Moving on

It seems the fallout between old friends Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta
has ensured that those associated with Dutt’s newly launched production
house didn’t show up at her latest film’s premiere last night.

The list includes Neha’s father Dharam Oberoi who once worked with
Gupta’s White Feather Films and is now closely associated with Dutt.
“There was no question of attending the premiere even if it was my
daughter’s big day. I have my entire life to devote to her happiness
and career. I regret I couldn’t be there for her. But I’ve moved on. I
wish Mr Gupta all the best in life.”

No complaints

Neha puts up a brave face. “I don’t even want to think about these
things. I just want to concentrate on my premiere night and my career.
As far as Woodstock Villa is concerned, I’ve no complaints. I’m happy
for the unconventional launch. Not that my launch is entire
unconventional.

I’ve four songs in Woodstock Villa. And I’ve
my father and Mr Sanjay Dutt’s expertise in the business to guide me.
So no regrets at all.”

Neha had a early birthday. “I brought
it in with my family and retired early because I knew I had a long
night ahead for my premiere.”

Gups’ gyaan
On why Sanjay Gupta got niece Neha Uberoi’s voice dubbed for Woodstock Villa:

“Neha is my sister’s daughter. Though I’ve fallen out with her father
Dharam Oberoi, she’s being promoted just as strongly as Sikandar. Yes,
her voice has been dubbed. Let me put it this way: when they started,
even Sridevi, Rani Mukerji, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu were dubbed.
I’d say it’s a good-luck charm. I dubbed her voice for good luck.”

It is the first feature film in India to release its background score.

Sarkar Raj becomes the first feature film in India to release its background score.

Power of Sound, the background score album has 32 tracks featuring moods and situations from the film. Amar Mohile has composed the background score.

Film director Ram Gopal Varma said on Thursday night that internationally, there are no song and dance routines like in India, and thus background score for special event films like James Bond and Harry Potter series are released.

He said apart from the background score album, the film has a regular music CD containing 12 tracks.

The film’s lead cast Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan released the album. Amitabh spoke on the importance of background score and how often it is ignored.

When the megastar heard a strange sound coming from the background music being played on stage, he said, “The score reflects my mood for the evening. I have come here after penning a page of my blog only to see the broadband connection going away with my thoughts.”

When Aishwarya was asked how was it to work with Abhishek in the film when they are not paired opposite each other, Abhishek asked, “Do you mean we lack chemistry?” To which Varma said, “This is what happens after marriage.”
The filmmaker refused to entertain questions whether Tanisha, the actress paired opposite Abhishek dies in the film to make Ash and Abhishek come together.
As part of the promotion of Sarkar Raj, a yatra is being planned across five cities from June 13. Varma said the yatra is an exact replication of a scene from the film, where a procession travels from one destination to another.
The three Bachchans will participate in the road show. The film releases on June 6 and will be premiered at the IIFA weekend in Bangkok.

Kunal Kohli and Amisha Patel’s budding friendship is the talk of the town

aisa jadoo daala re! Amisha Patel

Kunal Kohli and Amisha Patel’s growing proximity is causing a major
buzz in B-Town so much so that it has even made the leading Lady of
Thoda Magic Thoda Pyaar, Rani Mukerji insecure. She feels that Amisha’s
role has turned into a full-fledged one from that of a cameo, because
of her closeness to the director.

Love problems

Interestingly, there are also rumours that Amisha is having problems
with boyfriend Kannav Puri and Kunal has been lending her a caring ear.
In fact, the buzz is that Kannav and Amisha have split.

A source
says, “Kunal seems to be taken in by Amisha’s soft nature and even
fought with Aditya Chopra to get Amisha’s role extended in TPTM.

And he has made her look stunning in the film, unlike Rani, who’s
looking uninspired. The effort and care that has gone into Amisha’s
character is very apparent.” Also, Kohli too has been telling everyone
that Patel isn’t doing a cameo but has a proper role in the film.” This
has Rani up in arms.

It is believed that Rani spoke to
boyfriend Aditya Chopra and asked him not to allow Amisha to give
interviews about the film. Rani wanted centerstage.

Close encounters

But what is making the industry sit up and take notice is Amisha
growing closeness to the much-married Kunal. The director and the
actress have been spending a lot of time talking on the phone and
they’ve even been meeting off the sets.

Amisha’s
spokesperson says, “Amisha and Kannav haven’t broken up.” And adds
that she doesn’t want to comment on her friendship with Kunal.

Kunal says: Good Friend

They say: Amisha is not doing a cameo:
Kunal says: Amisha
is doing a very entertaining role in the movie. I wouldn’t want to call
her role in the film a cameo but more of a special guest appearance.

They say: you fought with Aditya Chopra to get Amisha’s role extended?
Kunal says: On
the contrary, there is a scene of Rani’s in the film which I have cut
out but no scenes of Amisha has been chopped off. At the end of the
day, it’s my call on what goes in the final film and no one else’s.

They say: Rani Mukerji has asked Yash Raj to stop Amisha from giving interviews on the film.
Kunal says: I
am fully in charge of handling the marketing of the film and nobody
else has a say in it, especially any actor! People at Yash Raj camp and
I have decided the marketing pattern for the movie and we are sticking
to it.

They say: You are very close to Amisha.
Kunal says: What rubbish! I am a happily married man and am only close to my wife.

They say: You are more than colleagues…
Kunal says: “Amisha
is a good friend and a very lovely person. It was fantastic to work
with her she is very professional and she did her part brilliantly.”

They say: Amisha has been crying to you about her man problems?
Kunal says:
“Mad or what! Nothing like this has happened. I haven’t even met Amisha
after the movie was completed. The last time I met her was at the music
launch of the film. I think she is happy with her boyfriend, Pranav or
Manav or whatever his name is!”

The much-touted tour of song-and-dance shows spearheaded by the Bachchans will kick off in July this year. Besides providing entertainment to Bollywood buffs, the tour will also aim to spread awareness about global warming.

There has been much shuffling in the ensemble of performers of ‘The Unforgettable Tour’ but the show’s producers Wizcraft International Entertainment have managed to rope in enough of big stars to give the extra sheen to the musical shows.

The Tour will be held over 26 countries including Canada, USA, England, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Helmed by Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, the tour will reportedly kick off on July 18 at the Roger's Center in Toronto, Canada.

It can be recalled that it was here that the first announcement of tour was made by Aishwarya and Abhishek last year. The tour will also feature Bollywood celebrities like Preity Zinta, Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh and possibly Saif Ali Khan.

The Stars: Amitabh Bachchan

He is Famous For his great acting and personality, and for giving us such super hits like Deewar, Suhaag, Muqaddar Ka Sikander, etc. He is also known as the first Bollywood action hero.

Currently, he is one of the busiest actors and singers in Bollywood as well as on TV, as can be seen from the commercials that he appears on, especially on Sahara One.

Looks like there are no limits for this super-star and once the "Angry Young Man" of Bollywood.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya is often acclaimed as the most beautiful woman in the world.

She had her first commercial success in the Tamil movie Jeans (1998), and came to the attention of Bollywood in the Hindi movie, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

She has acted in over forty movies in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and English, including the international productions, Bride & Prejudice (2003), Mistress of Spices (2006) and The Last Legion (2007) in English.

She is married to Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan and has Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as her Father in Law.

Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek is the son of Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. His wife is former Miss World turned actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Bachchan made his debut with J.P. Dutta`s Refugee (2000). After that, his career consisted of films that went un-noticed at the box office.

It was not until 2004, that the actor delivered a hit and a critically acclaimed performance, in the films Dhoom & Yuva.

Since then, Bachchan has starred in films that have been commercially and critically successful and has established himself as one of the leading actors of the industry.

Preity Zinta

A criminal psychology graduate, Zinta made her acting debut in Dil Se in 1998, followed by Soldier in the same year.

She won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for both films, and was later recognised for her performance as a teenage single mother in Kya Kehna.

She was later noted for her portrayal of independent, modern Indian women in Salaam Namaste and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, overseas top grossers. Zinta thus has established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema.

Ritesh Deshmukh

He made his debut in 2003 with Tujhe Meri Kasam which was an average hit at the box office. He became a known face after the 2004 comedy Masti which established him as an actor. He has mainly taken on comic roles, rather than serious roles.

He has since appeared in several successful comedy films including Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Malamaal Weekly and Apna Sapna Money Money.

Recently, he was seen in the multi-starrer action film Cash , Heyy Babyy and Dhamaal which were quite successful at the box office.

Others: Akshay Kumar

Akshay is currently one of the most popular stars of Bollywood.

During the 90s, Kumar was primarily described as the action hero of Bollywood, starring in hit action films such as Khiladi (1992), Mohra (1994) and Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), and being particularly known for his "Khiladi Series".

His success came to its peak in 2007, when he starred in four consecutive commercial hits. Having done so, he has thus established himself as one of the prominent actors of the Hindi film industry.

Music: Vishal & Shekhar

Vishal-Shekhar are a music directing duo for Bollywood films. They have had a number of successes including Om Shanti Om, Tara Rum Pum, Salaam Namaste, Dus and Bluffmaster.

However, they also have their share of plagiarism like most contemporary Bollywood music directors, since they used the "Pulp Fiction" theme as Bollywood movie "Cash" theme song.

The duo rose in prominence when they composed the score for the film Jhankaar Beats, which included the hit song tu aashiqui hai. Their efforts paid off when they won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for Jhankaar Beats.

Vishal Dadlani is also the vocalist of Mumbai-based electronic band Pentagram, and was a sometime-VJ at Channel V. Shekhar is a trained classical singer and has a sound base of Indian music.

Katrina KaifIt has become somewhat customary for Katrina Kaif’s skirt to raise a few hackles.

We all know of the controversy that Katrina Kaif unwillingly created when she went to the holy Sufi shrine at Ajmer in a short skirt to shoot a scene for Vipul Shah’s film Namastey London . That controversy was resolved only after Shah decided to delete the sequence altogether from the film.

Now, an almost similar incident reportedly happened while shooting Shah’s home production Singh Is Kinng in Egypt.

Katrina was to shoot against the backdrop of the great pyramids along with co-star Akshay Kumar but the local police reportedly arrived at the scene and objected to Katrina’s outfit that exposed her bare legs.

Egypt is predominantly a Muslim nation and revealing outfits are not accepted in public places there.

Reports say director Anees Bazmee , who was determined to shoot at the pyramids, managed to get the matter resolved with the help of others.

And thankfully another skirt controversy was successfully skirted.

Rani MukherjeeBollywood star Rani Mukherjee , who has not had a good run at the box office since the critically acclaimed Black two years ago, says she is not a recluse.

"I am perceived to be as a recluse which I am not. I am a family oriented person and I like to spent time with my family when I am not working," she told reporters in Mumbai on Friday evening.

"Just because I keep to myself after shooting and not seen at places where the media normally goes, one can't have such preconceived notions. I like playing with my two-year-old niece Myesha when I am free."

Earlier, Rani interacted with children from eight city-based orphanages and shared with them her upcoming film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic . Rani appeared relaxed and happy as she sang and danced with the children.

She admitted that she has become selective about her roles. "I want to essay characters which I have not done before. My fans have given me so much love and respect that I want to make them happy about my performances."

Rani said recently she had been offered several roles opposite Akshay Kumar , who had four hits to his credit last year, but had to reject them because she did not like them.

"The films, however, went on to become huge hits. I am still waiting for a good offer opposite Akshay."

In ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic', Rani said she plays an angel. "It is also perhaps for the first time that I have not used glycerine as I don't have to cry in any frame of the film."

"Similarly, I wear only one outfit throughout the film. Manish Malhotra made 50 costumes to design my look in the film out of which only one was chosen."

Describing the Kunal Kohli produced film as a fantasy, Rani said her character, sent by God, is instrumental in bringing Saif Ali Khan , who plays a business tycoon, closer to four orphans to share happiness and love.

Responding to questions, Rani said the difficult part of her character was that she had to do a lot of special effects like flying around. "I came close to being like Hrithik in `Krrish'. It was physically tough. The easiest part was that I was smiling throughout the film."

About her co-star Saif, Rani said initially on the sets of their first film Hum Tum , they did not get along well. "But through the film, we came close as friends and actors."

"We have grown as actors since `Hum Tum' and value each other's inputs in our performances."

Asked about director Kunal Kohli, with whom she has done three films so far out of the four he has made, Rani said Kohli had matured over the years as a director. "After the debacle of his first film Mujhse Dosti Karoge , he had lost the confidence to direct a film again."

Rani said she will soon begin work opposite Shahid Kapur in the next Yashraj Films banner film directed by Anurag Singh.

To a question about her co-stars, Rani said she had learnt a lot from Shahrukh Khan because she was paired opposite him in the early stage of her career.

"He is focused and hardworking even after reaching the pinnacle of success. Aamir is my close friend. I have different relationship with all my co-stars."

Chandni Chowk To China Shooting his film Chandni Chowk To China in Bangkok has been like a homecoming for Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar.

Akshay’s life-story would truly make for an emotional potboiler. Before he came to Mumbai and began his acting career, the actor used to work in Bangkok restaurants where he used to do pretty much everything from waiting tables and cooking food to washing dishes. From there, Akshay has today risen to the status of a sought-after mega star in Hindi film industry, but the man has not forgotten his days of struggle and penury.
When he began shooting Nikhil Advani’s film ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ – which is roughly based on Akki’s own lifestory – in Bangkok, the actor says he felt like returning to his home.

“So much has changed and yet there is so much that is still the same. There are more buildings and flyovers, but the traffic is still a mess that it was. The massages here are still as wonderful and the people are still hospitable,” Akshay is quoted as saying.

While shooting the film in Bangkok, Akki decided to catch up on his past and visited a restaurant where he used to work as a waiter. The actor couldn’t control his emotions as he walked through the same place where he had struggled day and night.

Today, Akshay calls Bangkok his “second home”. He thinks it is the most humble city in the world where people are happy sitting on the beach, selling coconuts or getting massages.

With ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ Akki is returning to action after a long gap of five years. The actor says his son Aarav inspires him to do more action roles.

Another factor that makes the director fearlessly release the movie on 13th June (expected movie release date) is the strong starcast of the movie. Naming a few it has the comedy icon Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav who have already found their share of success with Priyan.

What must be the greatest advantage that an actor possessing a caliber like Kamal Haasan enjoys in going for roles that comes as complete strangers to the list of the kind of characters that film lovers have ever seen on the screens?

The answer is that neither hardcore film enthusiasts nor people who have the minimum required knowledge on films and are least interested even in a casual teal shop discussion about actors or about the latest happenings in the film industries will ever doubt whether he will be able to carry off 10 different roles with 10 different voices and physical attributes breathing air into a story that spans hundreds of years.

Only a few actors ever come close to go for these kinds of challenges and explaining why Kamal Haasan chooses these kinds of films is of no need and is practically impossible as only the great actor himself can explain how he decides on his next project.

And when the veteran actor has formed a team with the best of the cream of the actors and technicians and person like K.S.Ravikumar sitting in the director's chair and Oscar Ravichandran financing the project, fantastic promos that have already captured the cinema lovers attention, uncountable press reports and the Asian Hollywood star Jackie Chan himself attending the audio release in Chennai, We can ask is there anything else that is to be done now to make sure that this attempt will remain a unique one till the end of time?

So is there anything more than this film should ask for and look into its arsenal to finish up any uncompleted tasks that can push the film even higher?

Being the chief guest of the audio launch function and himself admitting about the impact and quality of the movie after watching the promos, Jackie Chan is entitled to get a copy of the whole film.

So the makers of Kamal Haasan's epic movie are also planning to send the copy of the film to Jackie chan.

But, any wild guesses to know who is the next person who the producer of the epic film is trying to get to see their dear baby film conceived extracting the best drops of tremendous self belief and withstanding the onslaught of creative confusion that descends like a smog before the eternal sunlight comes in the form of crystal clear polished refined ideas fully ready to be executed tearing it apart.

The makers of 'Dasavathar' is now trying to get the President of United states of America George Bush to get to see the film as they feel that it will add to the status of the film.

They are trying to get the print of the film to the American President through the Governor of the state of Louisana Bobby Jindal who other than being a person of Indian origin is also the youngest governor of the state that he represents and also the first non-white Governor in U.S.A. in 130 years.

For this purpose a print of the film along with notes on the movie has been already sent to Bobby Jindal.

And if ever Geroge Bush happens to watch the movie, do you think he will fail to include it in his collection of presents that he has got during his tenure in the White House as everyone knows that the America President is one of the 10 roles enacted by Kamal Hassan in 'Dasavathar'.

So just think of George Bush's excitement when he sees himself on the screen.

The makers of the movie is trying for more ways to make 'Dasavathar' a film which has more number ones in its kitty even before its release.

This film will always be considered in the history of Indian Films as one of the few works that have managed to create hype to this extent and got a kind of attention from the members of the audience like never before.

But Until the hour before the release of this film there is enough and more time to expect more juicy information regarding the film or just about anything that is related to the film and who knows the makers must have already thought of some novel ways to be used as the ultimate publicity weapon in the final days leading to the countdown.

Years back when Priyadarshan and Akshaye Khanna had come together, they created some Hungama and Hulchul. Now as they get together for Mere Baap Pehle Aap, they are also joined by Vidyasagar, the composer of Hulchul, who creates tunes for this yet another comedy flick this season. Sameer is the lyricist.

Though the songs of Hulchul didn't really create much 'hulchul' to begin with, a couple of numbers ('Rafta Rafta', 'Ishq Mein') did manage to stick on and can be heard even today. In case of Mere Baap Pehle Aap though, even that looks pretty doubtful.

Sangeet Haldipur is entrusted with the responsibility of singing the title song 'Mere Baap Pehle Aap'. A relative newcomer who in the past has been heard in Traffic Signal and Corporate, Sangeet gets a big solo for himself here as he croons for Akshaye Khanna in this promotional track. However, the tune here is just about average and doesn't quite make you jump along as it is played. A number about a son trying to get this father remarried, it doesn't have the required punch which is so very well required for a promotional number to make an impact.

It is an out and out Pritam influence in guest composer Tauseef Akhtar's 'Ishq Subhan Allah' which has a mix of Hindi and English lyrics with rap in the background. Well, within a matter of seconds one realizes why the song comes close to sounding like a Pritam track all the way. Well, that's because the song is rendered by none other than Neeraj Shridhar who in the recent past has delivered numerous back to back hits with the composer.

Bob's rap in the background with Alisha Chinoy as Neeraj's partner further makes the song instantly attractive which makes 'Ishq Subhan Allah' a track which could be next Akshaye Khanna hit after 'Pehli Nazar Mein' [Race]. However, though 'Pehli Nazar' was a love song, 'Ishq Subhan Allah' falls under the dance track category. The 'remix version' which comes at the album's end only consolidates on the catchy tune further!

An item number sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, 'Shamma Shamma' is the one for the front benchers. The setting of this song could be anywhere - a bar, club or perhaps a stage show. Its racy beats make sure that there is no dull moment while this 4 minute long song is played but in the end there isn't much that you take home out of this 'chalu' number. And by the way, words like 'Kanwari kali', 'Khali Bali' and stuff alike have been dead and buried long ago! Barely passable number and hardly a reason to go for 'Mere Baap Pehle Aap'.

With Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal coming together, one expects a love song in the offering. Well, 'Maine Hawa Ke Paron Pe' is a love song but barely 45 seconds into it and you know that it is hardly a number that could turn out to be memorable. A dull number in spite of some pepped up Western arrangements, 'Maine Hawa Ke Paron Pe' has as cliched lyrics as Sameer could possibly write and the result is an out and out boring number which makes one wonder how Priyadarshan could approve it in the first place. The song is repeated with Shaan replacing Udit Narayan but the best of the singers couldn't have possibly saved this drag of a tune!

A track about a female being readied for her 'doli' being readied for her 'piya's angana', 'Jaana Hai Tujhko' is purely situational and can be given a sustained hearing primarily due to Alka Yagnik at the helm of affairs. With a prominent South Indian music flavor to it, the number has a decent tune but that's about it. Again, not a kind of number which would make one root for owning a copy of Mere Baap Pehle Aap.

Overall, Mere Baap Pehle Aap is one of the poorest soundtracks of a Priyadarshan film in the recent past. While his last, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, had a chartbuster score, it would be highly surprising if Mere Baap Pehle Aap manages to do even one tenth of it's business when it comes to music sales!

Would it be Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak once again with the arrival of Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa? This is the first feeling one got the moment the first look of this Aamir Khan production was out. Marking the launch pad of his nephew, Imraan Khan, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa seems to be another innocent love story in the offering sans any unnecessary mush, hence going truly with contemporary times. With pretty girl Genelia D'Souza opposite Imraan in this campus flick and A.R. Rahman as the composer, this Abbas Tyrewala debut directorial venture (he also doubles up as a lyricist here), JTYJN, is a promising flick arriving this summer. Does the music hold up to the promise? The answer is - Yes!
First things first - when the best of the best of 2008 would be written down, the number 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi' would definitely find a mention. Crooned by newcomer Rashid Ali who is being introduced by Rahman on Bollywood musical arena, the song is beautiful from the word GO, the moment guitar strings mark the song's beginning.

Rashid's voice is just perfect for an actor who is being launched in a youthful romantic entertainer and the singer utilizes the big platform to the fullest. While Abbas' lyrics go truly with contemporary times, it is a nice change to hear a Rahman composition in a truly mainstream cinema rather than the historical/period/issue based films for which he has been creating music for quite some time now.

In true Rahman style, he gets together a bunch of singers for the track 'Pappu Can't Dance'. Well, this is the track which is supposedly a spoof on Salman Khan's on and off screen image and has been making news in last few days. The song's beginning has a rhythm which has formed a part of the racy proceedings in the first teaser of Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa that had kick started the film's promotion a few weeks back.

Anupama, Benny Dayal, Blazee, Tanvi, Darshana, Satish Subramanium and Aslam come together to sing about this character called 'Pappu' who has seen all the riches in his life. Since the day he was born, he roams around in the best of the cars, has a body to die for, boasts of an impeccable style, but alas, can't dance to save his life. Hence the title - 'Pappu Can't Dance'. A fast moving fun song, which has a campus setting to it and also appears in a 'remix version', 'Pappu' is a song which should be fun when watched on the big screen.

It's a new sound at the very beginning of 'Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai (Aditi)' that hooks you on instantaneously. This very rhythm stays throughout this song which is crooned for the female character of the film, Aditi, by yet another relative newcomer Runa. If the song's haunting tune wasn't enough, the way Runa renders the track makes it one as the sad theme of the song conveys what the protagonist is going through. A number about a girl remembering the times gone by with the boy she loved, 'Jaane Tu' is composed in a style, which is similar to that of 'Zara Zara' [Rehnna Hai Terre Dil Mein] and hence can be expected to grow over a period of time.

The song is later heard in a version meant for the film's male protagonist Jai and is titled 'Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai (Jai)'. This time around the beginning is even more somber and takes it's own time to reach the stage where Sukhwinder Singh comes around to hold the center stage. The pensive mood is conveyed well yet again though this time around the version is even more somber.

Guitar is at play once again in the number 'Nazrein Milaana Nazrein Churaana'. The best song to arrive after 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi', 'Nazrein' deserves to be the next song in line for promotion. Packed with youthful energy, the number has a Rahman stamp all over it and goes in perfectly well with the film's campus mood. In fact just one hearing and you are sure to carry the number along for your next camp fire outing.

Yet again, it's an array of singers - Benny Dayal, Satish Chakravarthy, Naresh Iyer, Darshana, Shwetha, Tanvi, Bhargavi, Anupama - who come together but never once does one feels like trying to find out the singer behind a particular line. A complete team effort which reminds of the number 'Sama Yeh Suhaana' [Goonj] when it comes to it's setting.

The album continues to become better with every passing song, especially so the moment the title song arrives. Surprisingly, instead of 'Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa', it is titled 'Tu Bole Main Boloon', which are the opening words of the song. Sung by Rahman himself, the song is a funny take on how this guy and the girl have two different perspectives to everything, even though at the end what they mean is just the same! A bona fide jazz number with soft drums, saxophone and other associated musical instruments in tow, 'Tu Bolev' has an international feel to it in the way it's entire arrangements are done.

After a brilliant 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagiv', Rashid Ali returns with 'Kahin To Hogi Ho' where he has Vasundara Das for company. Yet another beautiful number which carries an Indi-pop feel to it, this love song has such a serene feel to it that one can't help playing the number on a repeat mode. This is a kind of a soft romantic number that you wish to preserve in your iPod and play it your loved one at the first given opportunity. A brilliant number which makes it two out of two for Rashid Ali!

The soundtrack here is unlike a conventional Bollywood score and instead introduces a style, which goes with the contemporary youthful setting. Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa is an album, which deserves to be bought this season. With Jannat being the only album which is registering good sales and no other album from past or present matching it's performance on the stands, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa by A.R. Rahman comes as welcome relief.
