The music launch of the film Dasavatharam -with Kamal Haasan in ten roles was every bit as star-studded an affair as the invitee list had promised. An impressive sum of nine crores was reportedly spent on the event that had Jackie Chan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jaya Prada (she also acts in the movie) Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Tamil superstar Vijay and Mallika Sherawat in attendance in addition to the main cast - Asin and Kamal Haasan. The guest of honour was Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

If true, it was money well-spent for Jackie Chan has already agreed to do a movie with producer V Ravichandran (Oscar Films Private Limited) that will also have a top Bollywood star. "Details of the new project will follow the release of the film," was all that Ravichandran was willing to divulge at this stage.

The coup de grace was roping in Jackie Chan who drew an impressive applause from the 10,000-12,000 strong crowd in the Nehru Indoor stadium each time he crinkled his eyes in a smile to the crowd. Mallika Sherawat in a little black Anita Dongre dress with a generous see-through back and midriff was definite eye candy for the crowds. But it was Kamal Haasan who remained the chief attraction for the crowds packed in the stadium. So much so that Big B, observing that a mention of Haasan's name never failed to draw a round of applause, ended his speech by loudly uttering his name thrice in succession which obviously met with loud cheering.

The impressive turnout of actors and fans (quite a few were turned away at the gates) was something of an indicator of the high expectations Haasan acolytes have from Dasavatharam. According to producer Ravichandran, Dasavatha- ram, along with a big budget of 60 crore-the film has an unusual subject that defies categorisation. The work on the film is almost complete and the movie is likely to be released towards the end of May in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Ravi, is confident that the movie will impress audiences across the country. "It's going to be a super-hit all across the country. There are people like Himesh Reshammiya, Jaya Prada and Mallika Sherawat (she plays a small, negative role) who are part of the film, which is going to make it popular even with audiences in the north," he asserted. The film that has got a U certificate from the Censor Board is heavy on special effects and has on board Michael Westmore, the make-up supervisor and designer for Star Trek series and Brian M Jennings for visual effects.

Considering the lukewarm response recent releases have received, this could well be the entertainer to watch out for.
