In the midst of all the push and pull which was happening around the final set of Bollywood films eyeing for a Diwali slot, Salman Khan's HEROES has taken the lead. The film is all set to arrive on 24th October and the promotion would kick start any moment.

Confirms a source attached to the film, "HEROES has been ready for some time but we wanted just the right time for it to arrive. I guess the weekend preceding Diwali (which falls on 28th October) is just perfect since not just we get a good first weekend for ourselves (24th-26th), we also can take advantage of holidays which fall on 27th and 28th. A 5 day long weekend should be good enough to expect a bountiful for HEROES."

The film is set in an episodic mode and apart from Salman Khan, also stars Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Mithun Chakraborty, Preity Zinta, Dino Morea, Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora, Ria Sen and Vatsal Sheth. Produced by Samir Karnik, Bharat Shah and Vikas Kapoor, the film is directed by Samir Karnik himself whose NANHE JAISALMER released last year.

Earlier titled MERA BHARAT MAHAAN, HEROES is a story of two boys who start their road trip from Delhi to Chandigarh and then Manali to Ladhakh. On their journey these boys come across certain real life characters played by Salman, Preity, Sohail, Sunny and Bobby on this road trip and these people have such an affect that the seed of heroism blooms within them. Basically, the story is about this drastic change in the lives of these two boys.

It was BIG so far, it is bound to be BIGGER from here on. 'Dhak Dhak' Queen Madhuri Dixit has joined the show and stakes have gone further up from here. There would be seven shows in USA over next few days and as is pretty much expected by now (looking at the response in Toronto and Trinidad), they are all already sold out. And yes, Madhuri would be featuring in each of these shows.

Talking about Madhuri, the young ones on the show are already smitten by her charm and grace. That she is gorgeous is hardly a secret but her friendly and cool persona has impressed everyone out there. No wonder, Abhishek, Riteish, Vishal, and Shekhar can't help being mighty impressed by her demeanor.

Further publicity for the tour is on in full swing in LA. There was almost a daylong press conference held in the city and to everyone's mighty surprise, apart from (obvious) arrival of Indian media, there were also dozens of US based media people present for covering the event. Believe it or not but in there were channel representatives from Afghanistan as well as Persia. Yes, there were Indians galore as well (quite a few belonging to 'Desi' channels and web portals) but what was heartening was to see Fox channel running a special on Unforgettable as well. Videos from the press conference and the tour were beamed by an hour on the channel with international repute! No wonder, LA is rightly termed, as an international center of entertainment
While there is quite some 'khushi' in the Unforgettable camp, there is a hint of 'gham' as well! Amitabh Bachchan is ill and has been down with flu. It is widely suspected that Shekhar is the reason behind that! Reason? He caught flu the moment he landed in Toronto and while he has more or less recovered, seemingly it has been passed on to Big B! Last one heard, everyone is laughing around and keeping a distance from the composer!!!

Flu means that Amitabh Bachchan has been out of circulation for two days now. So while all the youngsters are having fun and attending press conferences and cracking jokes and roaming around, the Senior B is keeping all precautions to be in his best shape before the mega event on the night of 26th July. Being grounded by Mrs. Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, Big B has his laptop for company and is keeping himself busy blogging with his fans and followers around the globe!

Meanwhile, if Madhuri Dixit has made nostalgia come alive all over again for her US fans, Aishwarya Rai is turning out to be the perfect representation of the Indian film industry. She is enjoying a pleasant double role here. While for a wide section she is representing India, for quite a few Americans she is being treated as 'one of them' due to her presence in International cinema for last so many years. She is being queried about the release of the latest installment of 'The Pink Panther' and other impending Hollywood projects. However, not to be carried away and respecting the troupe she is a part of; Ash is sending out clear vibes that she is an Indian at heart and well demonstrated her priorities.

Going by the true spirit of 'chilling out', everyone went for the screening of 'The Dark Knight'. While Abhishek, Aishwarya and Riteish couldn't resist having a dekko at the film within a day of their landing at LA, Vishal and Shekhar went a day later! Once again, appreciation for the special effects and action in the film came for all around appreciation.

- A lot happened in terms of Bollywood meeting Hollywood over the week gone by. While the team of 'Kambakth Ishq' can't top going gaga over Sylvester Stallone, the team of Unforgettable too had an encounter, which would be unforgettable for them in years to come. They came across face to face with Kevin Costner in the hotel where they all are staying. Costner was in town for the premier of his latest movie 'Swing Vote' and met everyone individually. He has been invited for the show and it has to be seen if he too gets bitten by the Bollywood big!

- Those who visited Universal Studios to witness the shooting of 'Kambakth Ishq' were in for some surreal moments awaiting them. It was quite an experience to see Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and the likes to be shooting on the sets of a Hollywood studio, something that is unprecedented. There were countless onlookers at the shoot was in progress. Later in the evening, Sabeer Khan (director of 'Kambakth Ishq') celebrated his birthday by taking Vishal, Shekhar, and Anvita (dialogue and lyrics writer of the film) for a private gathering in a Japanese gathering. Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and the film's crew joined them as well. All of them have been extended an invitation for the show now!

- On the personal front, even Vishal and Shekhar were in for some surreal moments as they got to spend some quality time with Madhuri Dixit all by themselves. The two were strolling around in a mall where they happened to see Madhuri as well. She, along with her husband, looked like a little lost in finding directions in the mall and was looking for a mall. This is when the composer duo came for her rescue (!) and bailed her out. Smiling ever since then, they haven't stopped gushing and blushing! Jokes apart, one facet of hers which has been managed to impress them both is her pleasant and chilled out nature. Not carrying any airs or starry tantrums around her, Madhuri stayed on to be humble-as-ever in her conversations!

- Talking more about Madhuri, highlight of the evening of July 26 is going to be, what else, but the coming together of the Queen and Ash for the 'Dola Dola' number. Envisaged to be executed at a grand scale, everyone is looking out with a bated breath for this one performance. Looking at the response in Trinidad where maximum applause came for anything and everything which was pure Indian in nature and presentation, it won't be surprising if this Ismail Darbar composition goes to win accolades all over again.

Stay tuned!

Cinema and cricket will combine to make a heady mix when the Indian Premier League (IPL) debuts on Friday evening in Bangalore with superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders taking on flamboyant magnate Vijay Mallya's Bangalore Royal Challengers.

"IPL matches are going to be full of entertainment...larger than life. I believe it's my duty to entertain people whether it's in films or in the IPL matches," Shah Rukh Khan, the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders along with friend Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta, told IANS.

The glamour quotient will be complete. According to Shah Rukh, Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are expected to attend the first match.

Besides, Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia, Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Priyanka Chopra, Amrita Arora are amongst the others who will be in Bangalore to see the cricket fiesta kick off.

Apart from inviting the proverbial galaxy of stars to cheer his team, King Khan has also launched an album 2 Hot 2 Cool to promote the Knight Riders.

"Today, you need a heavy dose of glamour for marketing everything. And Bollywood stars largely help you in promoting a product or team for that matter," said Bappi Lahiri, who has composed the music for 2 Hot 2 Cool.

If Shah Rukh has himself as the mascot of his team, Mallya has stars like Katrina Kaif.

"When Vijay asked me to be part of this venture, I couldn't say no! I share a great rapport with them and I'm looking forward to be making appearances to cheer for the Royal Challengers. I hope the team lives up to the Royal Challenge tIPoo and wins against all odds," Katrina told IANS.

She will be performing along with Zayed Khan during the match, and has also been signed up for the promotional album of the team.

And Preity Zinta, co-owner of the Mohali team, Kings XI Punjab, has teamed up with Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi to record an anthem for her squad.

Also, Akshay Kumar will slip into his dancing shoes for the Delhi Daredevils and Hrithik Roshan will do a jig for the Mumbai Indians, owned by Mukesh Ambani, who have tied up with Yash Raj Films upcoming movie "Tashan".

Preity Zinta plays lone host at IPL
Preity Zinta, Bollywood star and now one of the four co-owners of the Mohali team of the Indian Premier League (IPL), was a lonely host at her squad's first tie Saturday evening with the stadium here virtually without any stars or many spectators.

The over-35,000-capacity Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium had some stands virtually empty, particularly those with expensive tickets.

The pavilion terrace block, which is overcrowded during any international match, was almost empty. Only a few people sat in the Rs 3,000 per ticket block.

Out of the few thousand spectators, most were in the students' block, where each ticket cost Rs 50, the general block (Rs 250) and another block with tickets costing Rs 750.

"The empty stands have more to do with the free pass culture in Chandigarh and Punjab, particularly among VIPs and their families. With not many free passes being given by the IPL, people did not turn up," a member of the PCA organising committee said.

Zinta herself could be seen cheering her Mohali team led by Yuvraj Singh as they took on the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings.

She did not have any stars to back her - unlike Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, who had lined up several friends from filmdom at Bangalore to support his Kolkata team that trounced the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the tournament opener Friday.

PCA sources said Zinta had sent invites to several co-stars and VIPs but not many turned up.

Owned by Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta, this team has maintained a low profile and doesn't have much Bolly-power besides of course Preity. But the Zinta girl likes it this way. "The cricketers are the heroes, we don't need film personalities!" she maintains. The actress, however, herself did a little jig on the launch day. There hasn't been much draamebaazi post that.

The Deccan Chargers are set to provide some wholesome entertainment – on the pitch and even around it. There was also a musical performance by Taufiq Qureshi and his band ironically called 'Mumbai Stamps'! This team, however, has no filmi brand ambassador yet. They are more focused on the goings on on the cricket pitch than the frills-and-fancies happening in the pavilions.

The 'hotshots' of Bollywood are now part of the who's who of cricket as well. While Shah Rukh Khan had got the ownership of Kolkatta franchise, Preity Zinta got Mohali franchise, few weeks back to form their cricket teams. The bidding for the players opened yesterday. Among the bidders were other biggies like Vijay Mallya, Mukesh Ambani and the likes, who own other IPL franchises. However, the investment of B-town stars in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has surely added on to the glamour quotient.

After Preity's 'bhangra' performance and SRK making 'cool' uniforms for his team, came the 'D' day of the actual bidding for players. On February 20, Wednesday, the bidding began and stopped at nothing less than millions. Shah Rukh got Sourav Ganguly, Shoaib Akhtar, Ricky Ponting, Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Ajit Agarkar, David Hussey, Ishant Sharma, Murali Karthik, Umar Gul, and Tatenda Taibu in his Kolkatta team. On the other hand, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Brett Lee, Kumar Sangakkara, Sree Santh, Mahela Jayawardene, Piyush Chawla, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Simon Katich, and Ramesh Powar formed the players of Preity's team, Mohali.

However, what took the cake was the whooping amount of money that was paid to the players. Among all the cricketers, M S Dhoni walked with the maximum amount of 6 Crores, which is almost 17 times more of what he makes playing for India. The other four players who took the crème of the cake were Symonds, Jayasuria, Ishant, and Irfan.

But will this maths and long term planning work for their respective teams is what time will tell us…until then IPL Twenty20 is the next most awaited thing of the year.
