Today, not just every top grade established actor in Bollywood is commanding in crores, also the relatively new ones are in the league. According to a recent buzz Himesh Reshmmiya who is just one film old as an actor has hiked his fees from Rs 1.5 crores to 5 crores. Though he has been in the industry since a long time, as an actor he has just been launched with only one film to his credit, and for a newcomer this figure is extremely high. The question arising is that does Himesh have a 5-crore market value?

To trail back, Himesh Reshammiya was in the entertainment business ever since the advent of satellite channels in India. Not many might be aware but Himesh started as a television producer financing shows on Zee TV and El TV in the early days. His stint with music started when he composed the title tracks for his TV soaps like Amar Prem and Andaaz.

He soon graduated to films with the kind support of Salman Khan composing for films like Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hello Brother, Bandhan and Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge . Though he was always there in the rat race, it was Tere Naam that shot him to the top spot. Since then there was no looking back for the composer.

As a music director Himesh emerged at a time when the music industry needed to dance to a new tune. He redefined music in his own unique style by infusing techno music with an Indian touch, which was backed by simple lyrics. Then came Aashiq Banaya Aapne and the entire equation changed.

For the first time the composer took to the mike and churned chartbusting superhits like Aap Ki Kashish and Aashiq Banaya Aapne. Suddenly Himesh was transferred to a higher platform with his new identity. Despite being tagged as a nasal singer, his unusual vocals won him a huge audience. There wasn’t a single album composed by Himesh which didn’t have him singing as well. The musician acquired a new positioning which only boosted his confidence and fan-following.

Soon he indulged into private music albums on his own brand-value. T-Series imparted a ‘face-value’ to Himesh, converting all his private album tracks into music videos. From his tunes, to his vocals and now his face, Himesh became popular amongst his audience in an ascending manner in every possible medium. With the success of his music videos, T-Series decided to launch Himesh as an actor in Aap Ka Suroor . This was a big gamble.

But as is known to all by now, Aap Ka Suroor was one of the biggest surprise stories of 2007 and T-Series’ gamble paid off. The movie got mixed response from critics but gained a decent audience. His fan-following helped his distributors gain good money. Aap Ka Suroor especially did well in the overseas territory and Himesh became a global phenomena. His musical concerts and world tours had already got him recognition in the international arena and with Aap Ka Suroor he got his standing as an actor too.

As per industry figures, he got Rs 1.5 crores for his act in Aap Ka Suroor. Soon after its success, Himesh was signed for a 3-film deal by T-Series. All the projects were planned from the onset. Currently Himesh is finishing the shoot of Karz remake directed by Satish Kaushik. His other two films include Pooja Bhatt’s Kajra Re and John Mathew Matthan’s A Love Issshstory . Apart from this 3-film deal, Studio 18 too has signed Himesh for a movie called Mud Mud Ke Na Dekkh Mud Mud Ke . And reportedly Himesh has now hiked his fee from Rs 1.5 crores to Rs 5 crores.

Undoubtedly one can say that over the period Himesh’s market value has only ascended. On whether his remuneration is justified, Trade Analyst Atul Mohan says “It’s not very high. One forgets that his remuneration also includes the music of the film. As a composer he commands around Rs 1.5 crores just for the tunes and music companies like T-Series are even willing to pay him Rs 2 crores as his music invariably sells. So if we break down the 5 crore remuneration, as an actor he gets around Rs 3 crores. Not bad keeping in mind that you don't get saleable stars at that price. The figure is justifiable considering Himesh is a complete package”.

Also Himesh who was overexposed till recently is keeping a low profile now. Someone who composed around 15 albums an year till 2006 has cut down his work on the music front tremendously. Though Himesh was always a musician first, he is concentrating more on acting now. Presently he is only composing for the films that he is acting in. So when his film releases, his music fans will have something to look forward to after a long wait. The curiosity factor could work to his benefit.

To conclude, it can be recalled that Karan Johar had once quoted, “Today’s crore is the lakh of 90s”. So don't raise your eyebrows if Himesh is asking for Rs 5 crores. Read More ...

As far as composer, singer and now successful actor Himesh Reshammiya is concerned, he has people on both sides of the fence, both amongst the audience as well as the critics. There are some who just cannot stand him but then there is a sizeable majority that swears by him and his work. Himesh has demonstrated his huge fan following, first through his concerts (both in India and abroad) and then by the record shattering start of his acting debut venture, AAP KA SURROOR.

Coming to his next project, the remake of Subhash Ghai's KARZ, being directed by Satish Kaushik and titled KARZZZZ, the film went on the floors, earlier this month in Johannesburg. While another actor, who will play Himesh's first 'janam' (birth) role, is yet to be officially finalized, gossip mills are already abuzz with the name Emraan Hashmi. Not surprising because he is the actor who has contributed largely to Himesh's stupendous success, especially as a playback singer.

Since its T-Series at the helm of affairs, the most important aspect of the film is the music (like in the original), and we have good news for fans of Himesh, who are literally starved for his infectous tunes. As per India's leading trade analyst, who has already sampled snatches of the album, Himesh has composed some mind-blowing tunes for the film and more importantly for his fans!

It’s common knowledge by now that Himesh will be donning Rishi Kapoor’s hat in Satish Kaushik’s remake of Karzzzz . So it’s obvious that he cannot escape comparisons with Rishi Kapoor who portrayed the character of Monty in Subhash Ghai’s Karz .
Ask Himesh if he’s prepared for these comparisons and he retorts, “What comparisons? There’s no question of comparison. I think if I can even come close to one percent of what Rishi Kapoor had done in the original; it will be like winning half the battle. What Rishi Kapoor had done in Karz is legendary. I don’t think I can live up to those expectations. It’s difficult for me to match Rishi Kapoor’s legendary stature”. Not just that! Himesh has also composed for the remake and again his music will be compared to Laxmikant Pyarelal’s unforgettable tracks. “Whether I can match up to Laxmikant Pyarelal’s music or not, is a million dollar question”, says Himesh. “Success of Karzzzz ’ music depends on my hard work. I have already composed few songs. I won’t be able to give background music for this film as I’ll be acting, singing and will be composing for other films too. I am trying to get Pyarelalji on board as he has done the music for the old Karz . So he will be the right person to give background music for Karzzzz ”. And will he maintain the signature tune of Karz in the remake? “It’s an adaptation so there will be a shade of the original tune somewhere”, confesses Himesh. “It will derive inspiration from the original tune. But it won’t be identical to the old Karz .” Which song from the original is his favourite? “I like all songs but Dard-E-Dil is my favourite”. Will he use any other male singer for the film? “No”, exclaims Himesh firmly. “I have sung all the songs because I don’t think any other singer’s voice will suit me. I think I am the only nasal singer in Bollywood.” Himesh is pretty confident about his director Satish Kaushik who is adapting Karz along with renowned script writer Siraj Ahmed. “The story will be different from the original in terms of time. But since it’s a remake the screenplay will be almost the same. The film will have a modern and fresh look“, explains Himesh. Remakes need to be more interesting and catchy in terms of script, screenplay and music as compared to the original movie. What does Himesh think? “There were two remakes made earlier – Devdas and Sholay . But god only knows how Karzzzz will turn out. However I always thought that Karz would be the right film to be remade”. But then Himesh enjoys a special fan-following. Doesn’t that comfort him and make things easier? “I know the fact that I can’t always cash on my fans and popularity. I’ll have to prove myself in field of acting too. I am a music director by nature. Music is in my blood. But now that I have become an actor, I have to prepare myself for films. I am working hard towards everything from acting, dancing to getting that perfect look. I want to win critic’s remarks too. Last time I managed to get good response but this time I doubt. This is a hardcore commercial film”, concludes the composer with a clear conscience.

/photo.cms?msid=2743579 Karzzz is going to be Himesh Reshmmiya's second film as an actor. And comparisons with Rishi Kapoor, who played the lead role in Subhash Ghai's Karz is only natural. If the first look of Karzzz is anything to go by, Himesh will be in his usual cap and jacket look, even though director Satish Kaushik insists, "Himesh will look completely different in this film." According to him, Himesh will look like a rock star.

When asked about his look, Himesh informs that his sister Rupa will be designing his new rock star look. Rupa Chaddha is his rakhi sister and has been designing Himesh's look ever since her brother Prashant Chadhdha and Himesh worked on music videos together. Now she is responsible for his look in concerts, videos and films too. Rupa is a graphic designer by profession. "I have done graphic designing but when Prashant started directing and producing videos, I started designing for Himesh," she explains.

About Himesh's rockstar look in Karzzzz , she says, "The idea of a 'rockstar' doesn't exist in India. But the idea behind designing one is to begin a trend. Abroad singers who perform on stage are normally dressed in casuals. It's only Michel Jackson who goes out of his way to 'dress up'. Otherwise most of them are in baseball caps and that was the real inspiration behind Himesh's cap. It worked in his first album, so we got superstitious and continued with it. I didn't know then that it would become a huge trend and that people will start associating Himesh with his cap."

Himesh plays a character of Monty which was played Rishi Kapoor. So will Rishi Kapoor's look in the original be a reference point for her? " Karzzz is actually a modern version of today's world. Rishi Kapoor was one of the trendiest actors in Bollywood at that time, so there will be some shades of his style. Also a lot of old fashion is back. Himesh himself has a rock star image so it will help a lot," she says.

Rupa is set with her preparations. She has shopped from Europe and Hong Kong. "All these years we have been trying to create 'Himesh Reshmmiya', but now that he has moved to the field of acting he has to look according to the role. He will be seen in caps but they won't be the hot topic of discussion. The large portion of the film will be shot without a cap. He will not be seen in his jackets as he has lost lots of weight for his role. Himesh will be seen in clothes that will flatter him and the audiences," she concludes.
