DUMB seems to be getting dumber. Funny is beginning to feel unfunny. And Bollywood's current tryst with comedy isn't quite `Welcome' anymore.

Of course, the first Golmaal itself wasn't a high IQ exercise, with its tale of overgrown college students ending up in a blind couple's house. But there were some robust moments of sheer fun along with some crackling chemistry between the foursome: Ajay, Arshad, Sharman, Tusshar.

Here, talented Sharman Joshi has been replaced by also-talented Shreyas Talpade and Kareena Kapoor, basking in the success of Jab We Met , has been added to enhance the star value of the film. Ironically, the silicone shots don't seem work, as the film keeps sagging to unlimited depths, thanks to a no-brainer script and some really bad acting.

First the script. Ajay Devgan has an extended family which includes his couch potato wife, Kareena, his bimbette sister, Amrita Arora and his dumb brother-in-law, Tusshar Kapoor. Wife Kareena is an inveterate serial watcher and draws all her life's mantras from the Kyunki-Kahani soaps of Ekta Kapoor. Naturally, she suspects her husband when he spends a whole night on a yatch away from her. The husband, who had tried to save a desperate girl, ends up spinning an implausible yarn to save his skin.

The rest is one miserable rigmarole, where Tusshar and Shreyas try to infuse some madcap moments in the tedium, while the rest of the people just keep screaming and running.

It's quite sad to watch seasoned actors like Ajay Devgan and Arshad Warsi goof up in comic roles that they managed to carry off with elan in the earlier film. Shreyas, once again, displays his sense of comic timing, visible in Dor , while Tusshar proves that his dumb act in both the films might just end up as his career best.

The girlie brigade is completely unwatchable, especially Kareena who seems to be sleepwalking through the film. Again, sad, since she's such a fine actress and had managed to become the nation's fav girl after Jab We Met .

Ready for a third sequel? Not if it's as brain dead as the second.

No doubt Kareena Kapoor is the hottest screen queen. She not only manoeuvres the marquee but today commands the kind of enviable position and market price that reminds one of Hema Malini and later Aishwarya Rai.

When Kareena signed on to do the sequel for Golmaal, she just wanted to have fun doing a genre she hadn't tried before. Little did she know that she would become one of the sequel's USPs in no time at all.

Says Kareena, "Golmaal Returns was a planned move in my career. I've done films with an ensemble cast before like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Omkara. But none of that was so much fun. I just want my role to be strong and effective. I've a really funny role. I play Tusshar's sister and my name is Ekta and I only watch Balaji serials the whole day. I play this suspicious housewife who keeps tab on her husband's movements all day long just because she sees women in soaps behaving that way. It's a loud colourful role. I've never done it before. Audiences are going to come out of Golmaal Returns feeling very happy. I don't want to restrict myself to serious cinema. I'd also like to do fun roles."

As the project progressed, Kareena found herself in a position where she could rope in best-friend Amrita Arora into projects. Amrita wangled pivotal roles in two big Kareena projects Golmaal Returns (opposite Arshad) and Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakth Ishq (opposite Aftab Shivdasani).

Talented as she is, it would be hard to believe that Amrita's presence in these two projects is a mere coincidence.

As the shooting progressed Kareena's stardom got hotter. And her role of the suspicious and jealous housewife addicted to Balaji's Saas -Bahu serials was given the maximum glam quotient.

After the promotional theme track with the entire cast, Kareena shot a whole item number 'Tu Saala To Kaam Se Gaya' to herself.

Recently, another item song 'Meow' was also shot. Initially, this number was planned only for the promotional campaign. But now one hears Kareena's 'Meow' song will be used in the end titles.

Confirming these developments music director Pritam says, "What you've heard is right. I've also heard that the producers plan not to use the 'Saala' song. Both the item songs with Kareena were planned from the outset. The 'Meow' number was meant to go with the end titles."

One reason for this could be the word 'Saala' which many feel may be correct for 'Pappu' in Jaane Tu ....Ya Jaane Na but not Kareena.

Says Pritam. "We had the 'Saala' song in Golmaal Returns from before Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. But yes I've heard it's going from the narration."

Adds Pritam, "At the moment composing songs for Kareena to perform on screen is a big high for any composer. The turning point in my career were the songs for Kareena in Jab We Met. I composed one item number for Kareena recently in 'Billoo Barber' and now two in Golmaal Returns."

Roadside Romeo

With the animated dog’s-life feature “Roadside Romeo,” Bollywood continues its technological juggernaut. A co-production of Yash Raj Films and Walt Disney Pictures, “Romeo” is something new under the Indian sun: sophisticated computer-generated animation that uses stars to voice the characters. But craftsmanship and Disney aside, “Romeo” is very much a conventional Hindi movie with a small-guys-versus-gangsters plot, song-and-dance sequences and film references galore.

Romeo, a honey-colored pup living on the Mumbai streets, has the voice of Saif Ali Khan, and he’s a typical Khan character, a Westernized sweet-talker with a propensity to start every sentence with “Dude” and “O.K. guys.” His idea for financial uplift? Open a hair salon, which he does with his crew of Bollywood-savvy mutts. (The uninitiated needn’t worry; the subtitles let no reference go unparsed, as in “Imitating Shah Rukh Khan” after a line of dialogue.) Trouble occurs when the gang runs afoul of Charlie Anna (Jaaved Jaaferi), the big don dog, who loves Laila (Kareena Kapoor), the same fluffy white creature with dreadful pink eye shadow that Romeo adores.

Written and directed by Jugal Hansraj, “Roadside Romeo” may have its stars’ voices, but what it needs is their bodies. Perhaps Bollywood’s most ingratiating quality is how hard the actors work to entertain you: they dance, they cry, they risk appearing silly. The animated dogs in “Romeo” aren’t particularly appealing. They mostly walk on two legs and, unlike Disney characters, don’t wear anything beyond neck gear. They look oddly naked and move awkwardly, which flattens the dance sequences and keeps the film earthbound.

And for all the movie-making know-how on display, “Romeo” isn’t visually attractive, though there are some nice touches: a dingy, spit-splattered “No spitting sign”; a beautifully detailed train; and peeling movie posters with images of larger-than-life stars, reminding us of Bollywood’s true glory.

Indian actors Kareena Kapoor (2nd R) and Akshay Kumar (C) perform during the filming of the Bollywood production

The very statement that 'Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor are being paired together' brings all the makings of a Bollywood blockbuster in one's mind! Having said that, if we were to mention that Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh join Akki and Bebo in the film, it would undoubtedly be one of the biggest Hindi films ever! Well, this film is none other than Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakth Ishq! Needless to say that, with this, it becomes India's first film to boast of such a huge Indian and International starcast! The film is a romantic comedy about an Indian stuntman who takes Hollywood by storm.

The above pics were taken in Venice where Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor were shooting last week for a song sequence. From the looks of it, it seems like Akshay is trying his best to woo Kareena. The scale at which this film is being shot already makes it a potential blockbuster. Looks like there's no stopping for Akki!

Golmaal Returns, Ajay Devgan,Arshad Warsi,Shreyas Talpade,Tusshar Kapoor,Kareena Kapoor,Anjana Sukhani,Amrita Arora,Celina Jaitley,Sanjay Mishra,Ashwini Kalsekar,Murli Sharma,Vrajesh Hirjee,Preeti Bhutani,Rakhi Vijan,Mukesh Tiwari,
2 years back, Golmaal was just another comedy multi starrer that had hit the screens and turned into a success. Circa 2008 and suddenly one finds its sequel, Golmaal Returns, being elevated to the status of being a potential blockbuster. Reasons are aplenty:

a) The first installment of Golmaal is still afresh in the mind of cine goers and is being appreciated in it's satellite and DVD run.

b) The sequel looks bigger and better with Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, becoming a formidable force in the passage of time. Coming in of Kareena Kapoor, Celina Jaitley, Amrita Arora and Anjana Sukhani has only added to the star quotient of the film.

c) The film is mounted at a much bigger scale, something which is pretty much on display courtesy 'dhamakedaar' promos

d) Director Rohit Shetty now has three successful films to his credit, though at varied degree, in the form of Sunday, Golmaal and Zameen. The young director is truly one of the top 'masala' filmmakers we have today.

e) Last but certainly not the least, past 18 months gone by have truly belonged to Pritam. 2008 has been phenomenal with Race, Singh Is Kinng, Jannat and Kismat Konnection. No wonder, Golmaal Returns is being looked as the next BIG winner for Pritam. With Sameer as the writing partner, Pritam can't really afford to go wrong on this big project.

So does he deliver? Pretty much so! Golmaal Returns has the kind of music which goes as per Shetty's sensibilities of 'action packed score' and Pritam does well in giving a 'Race' feel to the proceedings that ensures that listeners have their hands full of playing one more rip roaring score which is going to blaze on well in fast moving cars, dance floors and pubs. No, don't expect any soothing melodies that Pritam has earlier composed for Jannat or Life... In A Metro. Here he goes holds-no-bar and comes up with a 'dhinchaak' score which is good enough for Shetty to create eye catching visuals that would surely attract audience into the theaters!

Cards are laid out wide open at the very onset with 'Tha Kar Ke' which surprisingly has a newbie composer Ashish Pandit at the helm of affairs. Even though this dance number has a trademark Pritam sound to it with regular Neeraj Shridhar behind the mike, 'Tha Kar Ke' is mainly credited to Ashish Pandit who does a fantastic job in coming up with a chartbuster number that just can't go wrong. Shot on a lavish scale, this 'let's get rocking' song has Anvesha, Aakariti, Earl and Indie providing Neeraj some very good support which keeps his Hit record intact. The number boasts of some lavish arrangements and with a huge orchestra supporting the tune, the 'remix version' turns out to be even funkier and makes you head for that dance floor pronto!

Nostalgia of Vishal-Shekhar's title song 'Golmaal' (sung by Anushka Manchanda) is back with the number 'Vacancy' which uses the punch word 'Golmaal' that is amalgamated well into the tune created by Pritam. The number takes on exactly from where 'Tha Kar Ke' left and sees coming together of English as well as Hindi lyrics. Yet again, the number boasts of a full-on arrangement which leave hardly a pause in the entire 5 minute duration. With Neeraj Shridhar leading the charge yet again, the number (with Sameer, Neeraj Shridhar and Ashish Pandit coming together for the lyrics) also features Benny, Suhail and Suzi Q who keep the racy mood intact for Golmaal Returns and ensures that it would scale up the charts. The 'Kilogram Remix', as the name suggests, is quite a handful and successfully manages to throw its weight!

15 years back, 'Tu Saala' would have been classified as a 'chalu' number. Today, with modern day arrangements and a classy setting, this one would go down as a number which would work well both amongst the college going youngsters as well as the masses. Don't bother too much about the lyrics here, this one again is a 'beats driven' number (expectedly appearing in a remix version too) which sees Anushka Manchanda in a different avtar altogether. Though the rhythm here is predominantly Indian, the arrangements are Western which gives it a different feel. The number won't go as far as 'Tha Kar Ke' and 'Vacancy' but should be an eye candy on screen, courtesy all the hot-bods that Golmaal Returns boasts of.

Monali had impressed one and all in her sensual rendition of 'Touch Me Touch Me' [Race] earlier this year. In Golmaal Returns she returns along with Suzy Q for a song that has been interestingly titled 'Meow'. A naughty number with a sensual touch to it, 'Meow' has quite some attitude to it which would truly appeal to Generation X. With Hindi lyrics by Sameer and Neeraj Shridhar, Ashish Pandit & Indie contributing with English lyrics, 'Meow' is a Hinglish track that has the kind of sound which has almost been patented by Pritam. Though the number does touch upon dark shades as well, it primarily remains a little quirky and is catchy enough to warrant two more versions - a full on 'English version' and a 'remix version'. One looks forward to see how the 'English version' fits into the narrative since it has quite some interesting lyrics to boast of!

To bring back the nostalgia of the Golmaal, there is also a pleasant surprise in the form of an entire soundtrack by Vishal-Shekhar from the original which is included as a part of the package.

Golmaal Returns is yet another winner from Pritam and guest composer Ashish Pandit who delivers what is expected from a soundtrack for a film belonging to action-comedy genre. No one attempts to do anything exceptional or different from routine and walk the path that has been successful in the months gone by. The music may not go the 'Race' way but does well enough to ensure immense awareness about the film due to its fast paced approach.

Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of a superstar named Saahil Khan in the movie Billo Barber directed by Priyadarshan.

Priyadarshan has been trying to rope in Shah Rukh Khan for various projects and Shah Rukh was busy with the IPL hungama. Finally Priyadarshan narrated the script to Shah Rukh Khan and an impressed Shah Rukh gave dates simultaneous with the IPL matches.

Billo Barber is the remake of Malayalam hit Katha Parayumbol starring Mammootty and Sreenivasan. Irfan Khan plays the title role and Shah Rukh plays a superstar called Saahil Khan. It’s inspired by the mythical friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudama but done in a completely contemporary context.

“It’s about a village and the changes that happen in it when a superstar comes to the village. What people don’t know is that there’s a very strong suspense element in the film,” said Priyadarshan.

Commenting upon Irfan, the director said: “Any big star would’ve agreed to play the title role. But I wanted someone who looked like a real villager, a hardcore barber. Irrfan has learnt how to cut hair.”

Shah Rukh Khan has roped in Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor to do cameos in the film.

Interestingly, Deepika Padukone was offered her first film by Priyadarshan but she went ahead instead with Om Shanti Om. Now she appears in a cameo in Priyadarshan’s pet project thanks to Shah Rukh Khan.

It was indeed, a day to remember. A day that will go down as a landmark in the Indian motion picture history.

The Kodak Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles, was the perfect setting for the Italian stallion, Sylvester Stallone, to be welcomed to Bollywood.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala had achieved this breakthrough by creating for the Rocky & Rambo legend a character that would instantly inspire him to accept this role in his KAMBAKKHT ISHQ directed by Sabir Khan.

And there could not have been a better beginning than the breath-taking backdrop of the Academy Awards venue, in Los Angeles, where the shooting of the film was underway.

Being the perfect professional, Stallone arrived bang at dot 9 AM. Giving him perfect company was the ever-punctual Indian Superstar Akshay Kumar. The two action superstars hit it off on the sets, the moment they met. It was as if they had known each other, since a long time.

Stallone was visibly impressed by Akshay's physique and fitness routine, all about which he enthusiastically enquired and wanted to know more about.

Also joining in on the day of the Stallone shoot, was Holly Vance the sensuous and pretty actress from Entourage.

The next day the venue shifted to Paramount Studios where Stallone participated in a Rambo-like action sequence with heroine Kareena Kapoor, coordinated by the Hollywood action-director SPIRO RAZATOS who has major movies like Vantage Point, Bad Boys 2 & Grams 21, etc to his credit.

With an ensemble international cast featuring in this Bollywood extravaganza KAMBAKKHT ISHQ, producer Sajid Nadiadwala was both energized and emotional about this experience. He said, "Its indeed a highpoint of my career to be working with an icon like Sylvester Stallone .We have all grown up on Rocky & Rambo. And today I feel blessed at having the opportunity of working with him right here in Hollywood."

How did it happen?

Sajid Nadiadwala says, "The happiest happenings are always unplanned. Since KAMBAKKHT ISHQ has a Hollywood backdrop and the hero plays a body double, luckily for us, our search for the perfect Hollywood hero started and ended with Stallone."

Would there be more such Hollywood endeavors in the pipeline in the future?

Adds Sajid, "I guess one door opens the doors to many others. This has been an enriched experience for all of us. And I am sure this is just the beginning of our company's association with Stallone."

Legendry actor Sylvester Stallone is trying his best to convince his long time buddy Arnold Schwarzenegger to appear alongside him in a Bollywood flick.

Impressed with the enormous popularity Bollywood has gained around the globe, the Rambo star is reportedly all set to do a cameo in Kambakkht Ishq (Incredible Love), which revolves around the tale of an Indian stuntman struggling to make it big in Hollywood. The film stars Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.

'Sylvester is excited about doing a Bollywood movie. He knows the industry is huge,' Daily Express quoted a source close to Stallone's mom, as saying.

The buzz is that Schwarzenegger, the Governor of California, is solely focussing on politics at present, as the state requires his attention.

Thus his role in the film is quite uncertain, though Sly still seems hopeful that his pal would enact in the movie alongside him

'Sylvester will definitely be in the film. But it's a cameo. He's not pairing up with the Governor of California,' Sly's spokesman said

Director: Vijay Krishna Acharya

Producer: Aditya Chopra

Banner: Yash Raj Films

Cast: Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor

Rating: ****

With Tashan's release, it seems like Yash Raj Films is beginning to find new ground.

After a string of boos and a Chak De! India in between, Yash Raj Films has dared to make something new and different.

It's just not love sagas and a few songs this time, it's all that and a lot more action and one helluva twisted plot. The film, though with many slips, is thoroughly engaging and entertaining. The vibrancy and spunk keeps it alive and loaded.

Bhaiyyaji (Anil Kapoor) wants to learn English to impress and a call centre executive and diction coach Jimmy (Saif Ali Khan) comes to his rescue. But convincing him to teach Bhaiyyaji was Pooja's (Kareena) job. A smart cookie, she manages well. Learning to fall in love with Pooja was not as difficult as teaching Bhaiyyaji to speak in English, for Jimmy. But where a smart cookie crumbles there lies deception.

What follows is the tale of deception, double crossing and more than one can imagine.

Somewhere caught between is an angry don and a deceived English tutor. Found on the way is Bachchan Pande (Akshay Kumar) who initially from the tracker and hitman becomes the tracked. Trailing through this is the complete package of love, memories, brilliant songs and heavy duty action.

To start with, the plot is interesting. Though it's a wee bit twisted, it is cleverly scripted. There isn't an overdose of anything and more or less things are to the point making the entire viewing experience fun, just as it is meant to be.

At this point one must commend the dialogue writer for the spunky and zesty dialogues that bring a smile to your face. The lines are not new, but the language is and so is the essence packed in it making it different and in a sense new.

Character development is another area that... s thoroughly laudable. There is great character build up that is relevant and not something that is done on a superficial level. Many might consider it superficial, however if one tries to look beyond the gloss and the glamour that the film offers in abundance, you see the character actually moving ahead with the story and growing stronger indicating change.

However saying it was perfect is unjustified, a lot of unnecessary delving is seen, which if avoided would have resulted in a much more crunchy and powerful film. Also the oration in the end comes across as a sermon, but this once you won't mind.

Filled with tons of colour and gloss the film is a visual treat. Sadly though the sloppy-in-parts editing does nothing to make it anymore rich or crisp. Aki Narula's clothes look fantastic, the textures and colours on display make your jaw drop with awe.

The music is great as well, though the same cannot be said about the choreography except for Dil Dance Maare, which is a rocker. Songs like Falak Tak and Dil Haara have the actors doing the most lifeless steps.

When it comes to acting, the film belongs solely to Akshay Kumar who has taken home the trophy. He is in full form in this film and delivers his best till date. His body language, diction and style is all true to the character. Anil Kapoor too delivers a noteworthy performance. He brings life to the lines and the character, which is hard to imagine someone else play. Kareena Kapoor looks ravishing but that's about it, pouts galore and some action scenes are all she delivers. Saif Ali Khan does well, but sadly the role does no justice to him. His usual magic fails to be seen in this film.

This film has action, drama, romance and helluva lot of comedy, if this ain't a power packed entertainer, it's hard to say what is.

Get out of home and watch it... it's solid entertainment.

The multiplexes have risen against Yash Raj Films yet again. The banner's new release, Tashan, has still not found a multiplex to be released in today. The film will, however, release in single screen theatres.

"We had a meeting with Yash Raj [representatives] yesterday but we could not resolve the problem," Vishal Anand, vice president, Fun Republic theatre, Mumbai, says. "But we hope that we will be amicably resolve this issue soon."

Though the exact details of revenue sharing are not known, multiplexes do not want to bow in front of Yash Raj -- or for that matter, any big production house -- every time their film releases.

Even Anees Bazme's Welcome was not 'welcomed' in multiplexes when it released. The film was screened only the day after, because of the same revenue sharing problem. Other films to get affected were Aamir Khan's [Images] Taare Zameen Par [Images] and Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar. Read More ...

S has been in the news almost daily for the last six months without having a single release during this period. It all started with the super-duper success of her last release Jab We Met, which catapulted her to the top league. Post that she has been riding high in both her professional and personal life. With looks to die for and a pencil-thin figure, Kareena Kapoor is surely the flavor of the season. Now, the million-dollar babe is all set to re-enforce her numero uno status with her latest release Tashan, which opens across cinema halls this Friday (April 25). Bollywood Hungama caught up with Bebo and found out about her Tashan.

What do you think about the music of Tashan?
I think Vishal-Shekhar have done a great job. It's very fun and youthful; it's keeping the script of the film in mind. I think my favourite song is 'Challiya'. I think I am being a bit selfish because it's my song but the way we have shot it in Greece is fantastic and I think that's the best song according to me in the movie. After that is 'Dil Haara'; it's a song with me and Saif which is also shot in Greece, at fantastic locations and it's a great love song, so I think I am partial towards these two. The music is great.

What was it about this film that made you decide to do it?
I think it's a tailor made role for any actress. I think I am extremely lucky to get this role. It's like a hero's role, it has action, romance, song, dance everything in it besides which I think it has a lot of closeness to me, the kind of girl she is, very headstrong, knows her emotions. I love the role, I love the character, and I think it's a great package of this huge commercial movie and being the only girl in it, I think I am extremely lucky to be getting this role.
Can you tell us something about the character you are playing?
My character name is Pooja Singh in the film. She is a complex character. It's very different for a girl to play; I have never played a role like this before basically following her emotions, doing the right thing but of course very sharp at the same time. The reason she is sharp is because of the circumstances she has gone through. So whatever she does in the film has a very powerful reason behind it, so it's a strong character.

Can you tell us how was the experience of working with Anil Kapoor?
I think with Anilji it's the greatest experience ever because he knows me as a kid. He is like family to me, my whole family and his family is really close. I think he is one of India's finest actors I learnt a lot working with him. The way he has played this character, he's made this movie, it's just unbelievable. Every time I work with him, my mouth is like left open see him perform.

Can you tell us how what was your experience working with Akshay Kumar again?
I have done about nine movies with Akshay and I have known him since he has done his first film. When he gave his first shot, I was behind the camera so that's the relationship I have with Akshay, it's an emotional relationship. I am most comfortable with Akshay Kumar as a co-star maybe because he has seen me in my school uniform with two pigtails hanging around so it's a relationship which I think you feel really close to. As of today he is completely rocking, he's the shinning star of Bollywood. It feels great because I have been with him through the journey of his career and I feel really happy. He plays a pivotal part in this film which is a great role for him and I think working with Akshay for me is always fun and games, it's great. You never realize when the shooting began and ended. Throughout my career, I think I have enjoyed working with Akshay Kumar the most and I hope to continue working with him in the rest of my career.

Lastly, Saif, it must have provided a lot of entertainment. How was it working with him?
Saif is one of the most respected actors. As an actress myself, I respect him the most as an actor, he's one of India's finest actors. I think he can do any role and the way he has played this role is just unbelievable. The kind of nuances he adds to his character, the way he speaks and modulates his voice I think you can just learn so much from him besides being a fun loving person. It's so nice and warm to work with him as a co-star. I get really intrigued when I get to learn something from an actor I work with because when you are working on a set, two actors should connect, two actors should be learning things from each other and I think Saif is one actor that I have really learnt a lot from. The way he is so spontaneous, the way he makes a shot appear so natural, he makes the dialogue so natural is just unbelievable. I have never seen an actor like him before. I absolutely love working with him and I hope to do many more movies with him.
Vishal-Shekhar's music has always been a killer. Your comments on them.
Vishal Shekhar, this is the first time I have worked with them in a film. I loved their music in Yash Raj's earlier film Salaam Namaste. I think it was great. I used to listen to the title track all the time. I think Vishal-Shekhar have this quality of adding a lot of youth to their songs. The youth of India really connect with their kind of music and I think with this film they have done a range from 'Dil Hara' to 'Challiya' to 'Falak' which is also a very nice song which has Akshay and me in it. I think they have covered an entire spectrum and done a great job.

The look in this film is most talked about. Can you tell us something about your experience working with Aki Narula?
I am really excited about the look of this film. I think words fall short to praise the kind of talent Aki has because I think as a designer he is one of the most talented designers we have. He gets into the skin of each and every character; he knows exactly what to give when and in which scene. I think he is just fantastic and what he has done for me in this movie is commendable he just changed my entire look; it is something that has never been seen before. I think the whole idea of keeping it very grunge and rugged for me has really worked because I don't think an Indian actress has really done that on screen before. Normally, an Indian actress is always very particular about looking beautiful, looking really perfect and her hair being in place and not looking messy. But in this film we have brought a lot of sexiness for the character through the clothes, make up and the hair. We have all worked together as a team to give me a unique look. I am really excited and I think Aki has done a phenomenal job; he's going to win a lot of accolades for this film for sure.

Is there any particular outfit in the film you would like to wear otherwise?
In my song 'Challiya', there is a change of 10 costumes. I would like to wear each one of them even if I go out for a dinner or a party because it's going to take on to the youth like anything. Aki has just put a lot of things together like shoes, accessories. I love Pooja's signature outfit - A white shirt with nice jeans and boots. I think I live in that always and I think that's why I like those outfit's the best.

Did you have to take any special training for the film considering that it is an action film?
Before this film started, I kind of knew that for this character to look different from what I have done before, I have to train really hard to change the shape of my body which I wanted to do. A lot of actresses abroad work on one film at a time, change their look for a particular film body wise people loose weight, put on weight. For Tashan, it was a conscious effort to change my body structure and work towards it. I wanted to look a bit lean because there is a lot of action in this movie and I think a lean girl doing action always looks much better. So I trained really hard for about eight to nine months and was on a strict diet regime for this film. But the lean look is only for Tashan, that's the only way this will look different from any other film. Adi, Victor, Aki all of us sat together and thought that it would be great if I could loose weight and get into shape and the response has been phenomenal. I am actually enjoying it I have got used to it.
Share your experience working with Vijay Krishna Acharya fondly called Victor.
Victor is a fantastic writer. The way he writes is unbelievable and I think to be a great director you need to be a great writer. The greatest of directors are fantastic writers. The way Victor has etched this film, written the dialogues, and written the entire screenplay is just great. He knows the pulse of the audiences and what gets them. Apart from making such a huge commercial film, he's made it very real, he wants his characters, his actors, the ambience around him to be very real which I think is great about Victor. I love that because I think the more real it is, the more you can connect with the audiences. So I love that quality in Victor. I think he gives his actors a lot of space, of course, he tells them what he needs, what he wants, and then he lets the actor flow. He is very open minded which I think is great. I have worked with a lot of directors but thinking that this is Victor's first film you cannot believe it, he's like a seasoned director. He is one director to really watch out for. I would like to work with him again; I had the time of my life shooting this film. Besides being a wonderful director he is a wonderful human being and I hope this film is a huge blockbuster for Victor because he is really great.
It must have been phenomenal shooting in Greece and Ladakh.
Shooting this film has been a marathon. It's been tedious but great fun because the team has been so much fun; we have been like a unit, a real family. We traveled to Greece, Ladakh, Jaisalmer, Kerala, Haridwar, so it's going to look like a really beautiful film because the spectrum is like all over from Ladakh to Kerala to Greece which is really exciting. Greece was beautiful, it was freezing cold. I have given a shot where they have put me in minus degree temperature water, which I think is the best shot in the film but let people see it. Ladakh was heavy terrain it was tough to shoot but like I said, when you are working with a family, when you are doing great scenes, saying some great lines, you are enjoying your work so much that nothing seems tough anymore. The oxygen level was low in Ladakh, so it was tough but we still use to train, that is the dedication Akshay, Saif and I had, because we love the film, Tashan.

What is your Tashan quotient?
My Tashan lies in the way I am, my attitude towards life, towards work, towards people. I think Tashan basically means attitude for me.

Any one memorable incident during the shoot of the film
It's tough to say because there have been so many memorable incidents. It is a truly special film. Shooting in Ladakh, Greece and Jaisalmer had been an experience that each of us would cherish. Each day, each moment is unforgettable, the kind of passion, dedication that we have put in this film cannot be easily forgotten. We have shot a song called 'Dil Dance Maare' in Ladakh, we (Akshay, Saif & me) had to dance on a stony path. I was wearing heels which were about 4 inches and I had to dance wearing this really short dress. I think the way we shot that song was the most memorable experience for me because the song was great and we enjoyed doing it so much. It was tough but we laughed it off, we had a great time shooting the song.
Action, that is probably something new for you.
To be honest, I am not really the action sorts. I was really nervous because I don't enjoy action as much as I enjoy dance or an emotional performance. I think the action-director, Peter Hinnes is outstanding; he is the best action choreographer we have in India. He is truly unbeatable, we had really heavy action in the climax of our movie but the kind of precautions that he had taken, we were literally mollycoddled as actors which I really owe it to him. I have done a lot of action and the safety measures were great. I enjoyed doing a sequence with Anilji, it's like a hose pipe sequence where he is putting water on me. It was an enthralling experience, really energizing, took a lot out of us. We were really drained by the end of it but according to me, I enjoyed doing that and that's the best action sequence I feel.
You are doing a Yash Raj Film production after a while how different is it now.
I think it's like coming back home. My sister had done Dil Toh Pagal Hai with them, which is one of her greatest films, and I use to always be there on the sets, kind of watching and learning Yashji direct. We have always been like a family and since childhood I have been a filmy kid, so working with YRF was like being home. I think it's the richest experience to be working with Yash Raj Films and to be working with Adi .I think it's a heart warming experience because the kind of dedication they have and the entire production team has towards a film is heart warming. That's why they make the greatest films in India because the work that goes in drives you to give your best. I think it's my richest experience ever and I hope to do many more films with Yash Raj.

The public as well as the exhibitors are eagerly awaiting the release of this Friday's Yash Raj multi-starrer, TASHAN. Based on the initial advance booking feedback and the trade buzz, the film is expected to take a huge start, maybe the best of the year so far.

Even the censor board seemed to be in a lenient mood, giving TASHAN (thriller) a UA certificate (C.C. NO. CIL/2/36/2008). The Vijay Krishna Acharya directed Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer TASHAN has a total length of 4226.34 metres in 17 reels.

An interesting aspect is that like most Yash Raj projects, the trailor of their next venture, the August 15 release, BACHNA AE HASEENO (Ranbir-Deepika etc.) is included in the reels of their current release, TASHAN.

Incidentally, the 28.96 metre trailor of BACHNA AE HASEENO was also cleared by the censor board on the same day as TASHAN.

Gung ho about new release Tashan, Steven Baker caught up with Saif Ali Khan in Delhi's Le Meridien Hotel. In a freewheeling chat, the actor reveals all on Yash Raj's latest, current flame Kareena Kapoor, and co-star Akshay Kumar.

One of the most eagerly awaited movies of 2008, Tashan has aroused curiosity through the tight-lipped promotional strategy coming out of the Yash Raj camp.

The movie marks a departure for the production house, who typically unleash their lavish promos and red-hot music months in advance of the film's Friday opening.

Guitar-playing-rocker Khan compares the banner's silence to one of his favourite bands.

"The marketing of Tashan is similar to the way Led Zeppelin released their fourth album without any publicity at all, which then went on to become their biggest hit," Saif assures.

Although audiences rejected YRF's recent releases Aaja Nachle, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Khan states, "They are a class act and a tight unit. Besides, in this industry, people love to see the top dog having a bad day."

The actor is upbeat, "Tashan is something I'm looking forward to. It's a full on commercial entertainer, and a real roller-coaster ride which will appeal to everyone."

Saif discloses the influence girlfriend Bebo has had on him of late, even rolling up the sleeve of his suit jacket to reveal a glimpse of his famous tattoo.

The performer was also sporting a ring on the third finger of his left hand, but flatly denied it had any significance. "It's just a ring," he smiled, "a gold ring."

On co-star Akshay Kumar, who is rumoured to get the girl in the flick, Khan enthuses, "I enjoy sharing screen space opposite Akshay," adding, "our pairings have usually been successful."

Saif revealed he has received accolades from his father, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, who appreciated his roles in Parineeta and Omkara.

The actor, in turn, is equally proud of son Ibrahim who makes his debut in Tashan. "Ibrahim now wants to quit school and earn a thousand million rupees as an actor.”

All set for another hit, the star's future is shining brightly, "I want to take even more responsibility for my career. The most important thing in my life right now is my work, and things are going really well."

ImageSaif Ali Khan is more excited about his forthcoming film Tashan than anything else right now. He is of the view that the film is set to transform him to the exclusive club of khans that include Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and our own Salman Khan.

A true Yash Raj movie it is sure to be shrouded in mystery till the directors and producers decide that it was time to open up to public about the film. Saif seems upbeat about the movie than anyone else. He says, “Tashan is something I'm looking forward to. It's a full on commercial entertainer, and a real roller-coaster ride which will appeal to everyone."

Saif is not the lone star in the movie. Akshay Kumar also appears in the lead role in the film and Saif is all praise for Akshay Kumar. And his lady love Kareena too is a part of the movie. It is notwithstanding the fact that the two do not have many roles together.

Saif is also very upbeat about Kareena Kapoor.

According to friends of both, he has never been more committed in a relationship. Marriage is definitely on the cards.

A close friend said: "There's a kind of fierce and single-minded determination in Saif to make this relationship work for keeps. And it isn't a defiant determination to disprove the cynics who say it won't last. Saif doesn't give a damn about what people say. He has always gone by his gut feelings, regardless of others.

"Earlier, after Rosa left, there were whispers of Saif being involved with various ladies. Saif doesn't like the image of the Casanova at all. He thinks he's too grown up for it. He wants stability in his life and a relationship that's for keeps. He believes he has found it in Kareena. Come what may, Saif will make this relationship work."

Earlier, when the couple were together in Bangkok shooting for Kunal Kohli's film, Saif's co-star Rani Mukerji was privy to many sessions of his outpourings on his love.

Kareena and Saif then brought in the New Year in Hong Kong with Saif's two children.

The khiladi will play a stuntman to Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Kambakkht Ishq"; film will also star Beyonce Knowles, reports Soumyadipta Banerjee.

Even before Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp could get his act together with Amitabh Bachchan in Mira Nair’s "Shantaram", actor and governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s office has confirmed that he would be acting alongside Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor in Sajid Nadiadwala’s "Kambakkht Ishq".

The film will be shot extensively at Universal Studios in Hollywood. International pop star Beyonce will also feature in the film.

According to sources, the letter from the governor’s office in California has already reached Nadiadwala who will soon fly there to sign up Arnold. Sources add that Arnold and Sajid have still not agreed on the final fee. Nadiadwala confirmed that Arnold has agreed to do his film but said, "My company is in talks with the Arnold’s office. However, I won’t be able to make an official announcement until Arnold signs on the dotted line."

Another source from Nadiadwala’s office said, "Arnold will be playing a Hollywood star in the film and Akshay will be his stuntman." Apparently, Beyonce will be making a ‘sizzling entry’ in the film. She will supposedly be playing an international pop diva. "We would have ideally wanted to do her an item number, but we don’t think that would now be possible," the source added. It is rumoured that Beyonce is pregnant after her marriage to musican Jay Z.

Nadiadwala has also appointed the casting directors of the reality show Entourage-Susan Paley Abramson and Justine Hempe— for roping in more Hollywood stars. Prashant Shah, line producer of the film, based in Los Angeles confirmed this.
