After injuring his eye years ago, the director attended an IPL match for his Billoo Barber star’s sake

Eye love cricket: Priyadarshan

People who attended the IPL Knight Riders’ first match in Kolkata were surprised to see director Priyadarshan sitting quietly in the audience.

"Even I was surprised to see myself there,” says Priyan. The South director almost lost his eye at a cricket match years ago, and has stayed away since.
Ain’t unlucky
The director speaks from the sets of his Shah Rukh Khan-Irrfan Khan starrer Billo Barber, “I went for Shah Rukh’s sake. Fortunately, the Knight Riders won the match that day when I was in Kolkata. Or people would’ve said I’m unlucky for Shah Rukh. Can’t afford that image while I’ve cast him in the most unusual role of his career, and that too, after four failed attempts to work with him.”
Recalling his passion for cricket, Priyan says, “I was a mad obsessive cricket player as a student. Then during one local match, I nearly lost my eye.” Recalling the harrowing incident Priyan shudders, “I can never forget that day. The ball just slammed against my eye. I had a hairline fracture. And I couldn’t see. I thought I had lost my eye. Fortunately, the eye is intact. But the nerves on the eyelid were enfeebled. So one eye is half closed all the time.”
No time for anything else

Priyan’s passion for the game continues, “I love cricket. Thankfully, I didn’t make a career out of it.

Otherwise today I’d have been working in a bank. The only reason why I don’t play is because I’m making films round the clock. There’s no time for anything else.”

Actor Shah Rukh Khan is too busy making fancy his Kolkata Knight Riders. The Badshah, we hear, is leaving no stone unturned to promote and perk up the spirits of his team, Kolkata and win the nation's heart.

For this, the man with the marketing mind has already pumped in one crore for his first music video which will be choreographed by Ganesh Hegde. Talks are that Shah Rukh will make two more music videos and will record a total of five songs. And this will result in the most expensive music album of all time!

We hear that the actor will be roping in some Bong leading ladies to groove with him on a Bangla version, too. No one seems to be 'pitching' in as much as apna Shah Khan, who is putting together all the money, and all his clout to make this a larger-than-life venture. Hope his team 'performs' as well, specially after he lost his bowling spearhead,Shoaib Akhtar before the first ball was bowled!!!

We've heard that 'all that glitters'... saying, na?

When King Khan found out the ban on Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar would prevent him from playing in his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, he was understandably upset. “I was shooting and had switched off my phone, so I just got the message,” says Shah Rukh, “It’s very sad because Shoaib is an important part of our team. I think the Pakistani board, with due respect to them, has banned him from playing international matches for five years. But as far as I know, the IPL matches are not internationally recognised, so I don’t know why he shouldn’t play for us.”

Now, will the actor be taking steps to make things right for his team? “We thought we had a good mix of players with Shoaib on the team,” says SRK, “He was working out and making sure he was fit to play for IPL. I’ll see if I can talk to the relevant people about the ban, if they can make a special consideration as this is not an international match.”
