Akshay Kumar

“Akshay is very close to Big B and after the successful tour their friendship has really moved to another level. So when he heard about Amitabh's illness, he was quite concerned. On October 11th, he was in Venice and in fact he wanted to come down that day itself for a few hours but he couldn't change his schedule around. Currently he is shooting in Cape Town for Nagesh Kukunoor’s film Eight By Ten and by this weekend he will come to India for a day to visit Big B," says a source.

Further his spokesperson told us that,” Akshay is constantly in touch with Abhishek Bachchan and if not in the hospital he will go and meet Mr. Bachchan at his place.”

Akshay Kumar has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in many films like Aankhen, Ek hi Rishta, Khakee, Waqt-The Race against Time and most recently he was a part of The Unforgettable Tour.

Millions of fans of superstar Amitabh Bachchan are highly upset right now, as the Superstar of the Millennium has taken ill and has been admitted at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. The irony of the situation is that today also happens to be his Birthday.

Amitabh, the 66-year old star, complained of abdominal pain today morning and thus, was immediately rushed to the said hospital, whereby the scans of his stomach and chest were taken.

Needles to say that, no moment his fans and well wishers got the news about him falling ill, the news spread like wild fire, which resulted in the huge gathering outside 'Jalsa'. Readers may recollect that in November 2005, Big B got operated upon as he had developed some intestinal problems.

It was BIG so far, it is bound to be BIGGER from here on. 'Dhak Dhak' Queen Madhuri Dixit has joined the show and stakes have gone further up from here. There would be seven shows in USA over next few days and as is pretty much expected by now (looking at the response in Toronto and Trinidad), they are all already sold out. And yes, Madhuri would be featuring in each of these shows.

Talking about Madhuri, the young ones on the show are already smitten by her charm and grace. That she is gorgeous is hardly a secret but her friendly and cool persona has impressed everyone out there. No wonder, Abhishek, Riteish, Vishal, and Shekhar can't help being mighty impressed by her demeanor.

Further publicity for the tour is on in full swing in LA. There was almost a daylong press conference held in the city and to everyone's mighty surprise, apart from (obvious) arrival of Indian media, there were also dozens of US based media people present for covering the event. Believe it or not but in there were channel representatives from Afghanistan as well as Persia. Yes, there were Indians galore as well (quite a few belonging to 'Desi' channels and web portals) but what was heartening was to see Fox channel running a special on Unforgettable as well. Videos from the press conference and the tour were beamed by an hour on the channel with international repute! No wonder, LA is rightly termed, as an international center of entertainment
While there is quite some 'khushi' in the Unforgettable camp, there is a hint of 'gham' as well! Amitabh Bachchan is ill and has been down with flu. It is widely suspected that Shekhar is the reason behind that! Reason? He caught flu the moment he landed in Toronto and while he has more or less recovered, seemingly it has been passed on to Big B! Last one heard, everyone is laughing around and keeping a distance from the composer!!!

Flu means that Amitabh Bachchan has been out of circulation for two days now. So while all the youngsters are having fun and attending press conferences and cracking jokes and roaming around, the Senior B is keeping all precautions to be in his best shape before the mega event on the night of 26th July. Being grounded by Mrs. Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, Big B has his laptop for company and is keeping himself busy blogging with his fans and followers around the globe!

Meanwhile, if Madhuri Dixit has made nostalgia come alive all over again for her US fans, Aishwarya Rai is turning out to be the perfect representation of the Indian film industry. She is enjoying a pleasant double role here. While for a wide section she is representing India, for quite a few Americans she is being treated as 'one of them' due to her presence in International cinema for last so many years. She is being queried about the release of the latest installment of 'The Pink Panther' and other impending Hollywood projects. However, not to be carried away and respecting the troupe she is a part of; Ash is sending out clear vibes that she is an Indian at heart and well demonstrated her priorities.

Going by the true spirit of 'chilling out', everyone went for the screening of 'The Dark Knight'. While Abhishek, Aishwarya and Riteish couldn't resist having a dekko at the film within a day of their landing at LA, Vishal and Shekhar went a day later! Once again, appreciation for the special effects and action in the film came for all around appreciation.

- A lot happened in terms of Bollywood meeting Hollywood over the week gone by. While the team of 'Kambakth Ishq' can't top going gaga over Sylvester Stallone, the team of Unforgettable too had an encounter, which would be unforgettable for them in years to come. They came across face to face with Kevin Costner in the hotel where they all are staying. Costner was in town for the premier of his latest movie 'Swing Vote' and met everyone individually. He has been invited for the show and it has to be seen if he too gets bitten by the Bollywood big!

- Those who visited Universal Studios to witness the shooting of 'Kambakth Ishq' were in for some surreal moments awaiting them. It was quite an experience to see Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and the likes to be shooting on the sets of a Hollywood studio, something that is unprecedented. There were countless onlookers at the shoot was in progress. Later in the evening, Sabeer Khan (director of 'Kambakth Ishq') celebrated his birthday by taking Vishal, Shekhar, and Anvita (dialogue and lyrics writer of the film) for a private gathering in a Japanese gathering. Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and the film's crew joined them as well. All of them have been extended an invitation for the show now!

- On the personal front, even Vishal and Shekhar were in for some surreal moments as they got to spend some quality time with Madhuri Dixit all by themselves. The two were strolling around in a mall where they happened to see Madhuri as well. She, along with her husband, looked like a little lost in finding directions in the mall and was looking for a mall. This is when the composer duo came for her rescue (!) and bailed her out. Smiling ever since then, they haven't stopped gushing and blushing! Jokes apart, one facet of hers which has been managed to impress them both is her pleasant and chilled out nature. Not carrying any airs or starry tantrums around her, Madhuri stayed on to be humble-as-ever in her conversations!

- Talking more about Madhuri, highlight of the evening of July 26 is going to be, what else, but the coming together of the Queen and Ash for the 'Dola Dola' number. Envisaged to be executed at a grand scale, everyone is looking out with a bated breath for this one performance. Looking at the response in Trinidad where maximum applause came for anything and everything which was pure Indian in nature and presentation, it won't be surprising if this Ismail Darbar composition goes to win accolades all over again.

Stay tuned!

Ever thought how the God will be managing the billions of complaints, needs and wishes of the people from around the world and even if we believe completely that it's the almighty who makes us the right decisions at the right time for all the humans in the world, how he must be doing it.

For every believer in the notion of the existence of god as the unseen force who controls life and destinies, it is not only the thankfulness and spirituality that comes up in the mind when long cherished dreams and aspirations become true.

In the time of despair, when everything seems to go wrong and life becomes a big canvas of lost opportunities and despair, for a lot of people god is the last person towards whom the blame is to be shifted and the lord becomes an emotional punching bag.

Salman Khan in the role of Arun Prajapati does exactly the same thing.
He blames God for anything and everything that happens in his life which makes his existence more miserable.

He one day lets out a desperate cry to God asking him why he is so unlucky each and every other time he tries to make his life better and why he has lost his job and finally ends up in blaming the ultimate creator for all of his bad luck in life.

The God does not make his life any better, but instead gives all his divine powers to the character played by Salman and asks him to make his own life better by using the new found powers.

Arun Prajapati is too innocent to think that the capability to do miracles and create wonders is all that is needed to make the world a much better place to live in.

He goes on to grant everyone who needs his help wishes to solve their problems.

But after sometime he finds out that all the wishes he has given has only done more damage to the already existing problems, things have got more complicated and are in a deep mess.

The movie ends up in the leading man realizing that being god and carrying out his responsibilities are impossible and becoming the almighty is tougher than what he thought.

Given his one of a kind authoritative, bass soaked voice, towering physical personality and the respect he commands in the whole industry as well as among the film lovers across India, who else is capable enough of giving the right and accurate feel of the character of the supreme power in 'God Tussi Great Ho' than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.

So here we have Big B, the suit wearing God who descends in front of the hero in the modern times granting the hero exclusive powers that eventually results in some new experiences that changes his attitude for ever.

Priyanka Chopra plays the role of the intelligent and smart girl called Alia Kapoor who despite Arun being a failure gets attracted to him seeing his good and pure child like mind.

Rocky is the other guy whose is in the trail of Alia. Played by Sohail Khan, he is the handsome, impressive, highly successfully and cunning man who has just returned from London.

He makes sure that he gets what he wants by either hook or by crook.

The way how he accomplishes his wishes does not have any importance to him. Only the final goal or target matters.

The Bachchans will be away from Bollywood for an extended period of time. And it's the NRI audiences all over the globe who will get a chance to witness their stars up close and personal… of course at a very hefty price.

Meanwhile we are here waiting for the stars at the press conference of The Unforgettable Tour in a plush Mumbai hotel. The Bachchans arrive late. But this time we are not complaining. Apparently they are already in the hotel. In all probability it's the event managers who have goofed up by losing track of the legitimate invitees and the hordes of gatecrashers who are synonymous with all Amitabh Bachchan events.

We are told that the first leg of the Unforgettable Tour will cover Canada and USA.

Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta and Ritesh Deshmukh are also supposed to perform. Akshay Kumar will also join them for one show.

Of course the list of people who have dropped out is much greater. Guess it isn't easy when even the likes of Lara Dutta turn you down. Nonetheless after many cancellations and letdowns, the tour is actually happening.

[MUST READ: Lara turns down the Bachchans!]

Vishal Shekhar, the music directors are not present but the official choreographer Shiamak Davar is very much around along with the rest of entourage.

Then the usual volley of questions begins. Most questions are directed at Amitabh Bachchan, who answers them mechanically, his sense of humour clearly missing.

Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit and Shilpa Shetty will be among the guest celebrities at 'The unforgettable tour', a world concert featuring the Bachchans.

"Akshay will be the guest celebrity at the inaugural function of the first leg of the tour at Toronto on July 18," Sabbas Joseph, director of Wizcraft which is producing and directing the tour, told a press conference here on Sunday.

Madhuri will be the guest celebrity at all the US cities and one show in Canada, whereas Shilpa will join the tour at the UK shows, Joseph said.

Another Bollywood actors Preity Zinta and Ritesh Deshmukh will accompany the Bachchans on the tour which was announced at last year's IIFA in Yorkshire.

With many stars having pulled out of the tour for different reasons, Amitabh Bachchan lauded Akshay's "sincerity and affection" towards him and his family.

Bachchan said he learned tips about body management from Akshay whom he kept meeting at a common gymnasium every morning. "If you eat well and exercise well, you are fit."

"I have acted with Amitji in over six films and in some movies like 'Ek Rishta' and 'Waqt', he has played the role of my father. No other actor of recent times has worked with him in so many movies like me. I plan to make the tour unforgettable for myself and my fans," Akshay said.

Bachchan said he last went on a world tour in 1990. "It is very strenuous. But, the love and affection of fans are so strong, that we decided to embark on this tour after so many years to reach out to the fans," he said.

The concert which begins on July 18 in Toronto would be followed by Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Houston, New Jersey, New York, Vancouver and London, Joseph added.

However, things are not what they seem to be and Shankar's dream project gradually becomes a political minefield. The evil forces, mightier than ever, mushroom and gang up to bring down the regime of Sarkar and obliterate Shankar's name from the political horizon.

To begin, Ramgopal Varma makes it very clear with the sequel that film making runs right through his veins and a series of flops can’t stop his creative fluids. The style Ramu maintains is topnotch and you are drawn are into the film with the camera movements and gripping background score.

The drawback in the film comes across post interval as the writing by Prashant Pandey falls short. Post interval the movie becomes more of a series of dialogues with not much movement in the flow of events. No doubt Prashant Pandey excels at writing a plot that indeed has a very much localized maharashtrian feel covering the political scenario but somewhere falls short.

On the acting front, Amitabh Bachchan is no doubt the finest amongst all characters in the film. Amitabh carries the charisma and he personifies the word ‘power’.

Abhishek Bachchan too excels with his character and seems to be highly inspired by Al Pacino’s character of Michael Corleone from ‘The Godfather’.

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan has been offered a very meaty and chunky role and is often seen with Abhishek in this sequel unlike Katrina in ‘Sarkar’. She does impress with her dialogues and body language.

What impresses even more is the set of character artists who are terrific and just apt be it- Ravi Kale, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Sayaji Shinde and Supriya Pathak. Tanisha is ok.

The cinematography by Amit Roy is splendid. The film relies heavily on one point lighting and it’s the cinematography that makes the characters look larger than life and gives them their desired power.

The music by Bappi-Tutul is worthy of mention. The brothers have worked really hard in creating the ‘Govinda Govinda’ chant which has become synonymous with the ‘Sarkar’ series. This time around, the chant comes across with a difference but retains its authenticity.

Background score by Amar Mohile is very good and acts as a key in enhancing the dark feel of the film.

On the whole, ‘Sarkar Raj ‘may not be as impressive as ‘Sarkar’ primary due to a dip post interval ,but it is sure set to get Ramgopal Varma a lot of accolades from the very people who ruled him out. At the box- office, success awaits the producers.

Sarkar Raj becomes the first feature film in India to release its background score.

Power of Sound, the background score album has 32 tracks featuring moods and situations from the film. Amar Mohile has composed the background score.

Film director Ram Gopal Varma said on Thursday night that internationally, there are no song and dance routines like in India, and thus background score for special event films like James Bond and Harry Potter series are released.

He said apart from the background score album, the film has a regular music CD containing 12 tracks.

The film’s lead cast Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan released the album. Amitabh spoke on the importance of background score and how often it is ignored.

When the megastar heard a strange sound coming from the background music being played on stage, he said, “The score reflects my mood for the evening. I have come here after penning a page of my blog only to see the broadband connection going away with my thoughts.”

When Aishwarya was asked how was it to work with Abhishek in the film when they are not paired opposite each other, Abhishek asked, “Do you mean we lack chemistry?” To which Varma said, “This is what happens after marriage.”
The filmmaker refused to entertain questions whether Tanisha, the actress paired opposite Abhishek dies in the film to make Ash and Abhishek come together.
As part of the promotion of Sarkar Raj, a yatra is being planned across five cities from June 13. Varma said the yatra is an exact replication of a scene from the film, where a procession travels from one destination to another.
The three Bachchans will participate in the road show. The film releases on June 6 and will be premiered at the IIFA weekend in Bangkok.

The much-touted tour of song-and-dance shows spearheaded by the Bachchans will kick off in July this year. Besides providing entertainment to Bollywood buffs, the tour will also aim to spread awareness about global warming.

There has been much shuffling in the ensemble of performers of ‘The Unforgettable Tour’ but the show’s producers Wizcraft International Entertainment have managed to rope in enough of big stars to give the extra sheen to the musical shows.

The Tour will be held over 26 countries including Canada, USA, England, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Helmed by Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, the tour will reportedly kick off on July 18 at the Roger's Center in Toronto, Canada.

It can be recalled that it was here that the first announcement of tour was made by Aishwarya and Abhishek last year. The tour will also feature Bollywood celebrities like Preity Zinta, Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh and possibly Saif Ali Khan.

The Stars: Amitabh Bachchan

He is Famous For his great acting and personality, and for giving us such super hits like Deewar, Suhaag, Muqaddar Ka Sikander, etc. He is also known as the first Bollywood action hero.

Currently, he is one of the busiest actors and singers in Bollywood as well as on TV, as can be seen from the commercials that he appears on, especially on Sahara One.

Looks like there are no limits for this super-star and once the "Angry Young Man" of Bollywood.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya is often acclaimed as the most beautiful woman in the world.

She had her first commercial success in the Tamil movie Jeans (1998), and came to the attention of Bollywood in the Hindi movie, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

She has acted in over forty movies in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and English, including the international productions, Bride & Prejudice (2003), Mistress of Spices (2006) and The Last Legion (2007) in English.

She is married to Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan and has Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as her Father in Law.

Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek is the son of Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. His wife is former Miss World turned actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Bachchan made his debut with J.P. Dutta`s Refugee (2000). After that, his career consisted of films that went un-noticed at the box office.

It was not until 2004, that the actor delivered a hit and a critically acclaimed performance, in the films Dhoom & Yuva.

Since then, Bachchan has starred in films that have been commercially and critically successful and has established himself as one of the leading actors of the industry.

Preity Zinta

A criminal psychology graduate, Zinta made her acting debut in Dil Se in 1998, followed by Soldier in the same year.

She won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for both films, and was later recognised for her performance as a teenage single mother in Kya Kehna.

She was later noted for her portrayal of independent, modern Indian women in Salaam Namaste and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, overseas top grossers. Zinta thus has established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema.

Ritesh Deshmukh

He made his debut in 2003 with Tujhe Meri Kasam which was an average hit at the box office. He became a known face after the 2004 comedy Masti which established him as an actor. He has mainly taken on comic roles, rather than serious roles.

He has since appeared in several successful comedy films including Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Malamaal Weekly and Apna Sapna Money Money.

Recently, he was seen in the multi-starrer action film Cash , Heyy Babyy and Dhamaal which were quite successful at the box office.

Others: Akshay Kumar

Akshay is currently one of the most popular stars of Bollywood.

During the 90s, Kumar was primarily described as the action hero of Bollywood, starring in hit action films such as Khiladi (1992), Mohra (1994) and Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), and being particularly known for his "Khiladi Series".

His success came to its peak in 2007, when he starred in four consecutive commercial hits. Having done so, he has thus established himself as one of the prominent actors of the Hindi film industry.

Music: Vishal & Shekhar

Vishal-Shekhar are a music directing duo for Bollywood films. They have had a number of successes including Om Shanti Om, Tara Rum Pum, Salaam Namaste, Dus and Bluffmaster.

However, they also have their share of plagiarism like most contemporary Bollywood music directors, since they used the "Pulp Fiction" theme as Bollywood movie "Cash" theme song.

The duo rose in prominence when they composed the score for the film Jhankaar Beats, which included the hit song tu aashiqui hai. Their efforts paid off when they won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for Jhankaar Beats.

Vishal Dadlani is also the vocalist of Mumbai-based electronic band Pentagram, and was a sometime-VJ at Channel V. Shekhar is a trained classical singer and has a sound base of Indian music.

The favourite celebrity activity this year is blogging. And B-town blogs now boast the number of reader responses and traffic hits, that beat their international counterparts hollow. The big B and Aamir Khan’s blogs have beaten the The Huffington Post (www.huffingtonpost.com), the world’s leading blog in terms of maximum comments posted.

At last count

Aamir’s recent blog on ‘Shahrukh, the dog’ got 6651 comments at the time of going to print, which is more than any of the posts made on The Huffington Post. Also one of Bachchan’s blog posts (http://blogs.bigadda.com/ab/2008/05/) has received over 900 comments. At times, he also updates the site on an hourly basis.

Even the world’s leading entertainment gossipblogger Perez Hilton (www. perezhilton.com) has been left behind in numbers by our Bollywood blogs. Perez’s blog gets an average of 500 comments on his posts, which is way behind the ones made by Aamir and Bachchan. Although Aamir is not a daily blogger, Amitabh Bachchan sometimes blogs more than once a day.

Interestingly, neither Aamir nor Bachchan have moderators on their blogs who block negative comments.
In fact, on his recent post, Bachchan has made an exhaustive list of all the visitors who’ve made either positive or negative comments on his blog. In his post Bachchan writes, “I had been promising that I would make every effort to respond to all those that have taken the trouble to comment on my blog. The task has been huge and of great magnitude. Random names and a few words on their views have been managed in the past, but to get each and every name has been tough. I will want to even as I write this, be able to take up specific queries and answer them, but for the moment I thought I would tabulate all the names that came close to me and thank them for being a part of my life.”

Feelings forever

When asked if he was aware that the comments made on his blog beat that of international sites, Bachchan says, “I am unaware of it. Feelings and what my readers express is more valuable to me than numbers. Numbers will vary and die in time. Feelings will remain with me forever.”

Abhishek Bachchan joins his dad in forthcoming fantasy flick

Vinod Chopra Films’ Talismaan starring Amitabh Bachchan now also includes Abhishek Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt.

Talismaan is a romantic fantasy adventure inspired by epic novel, Chandrakanta, written in 1892 by Babu Devaki Nandan Khatri. It interweaves and mixes elements of magic, fantasy and war. The shooting of Talismaan will commence from early 2009.

Old yarn

There are rumours that Talismaan is inspired by Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter, but director Ram Madhvani says, “Vinod gave me a book to read Chandrakanta, written 50 years before Lord Of The Rings and 100 years before Harry Potter. I was amazed at its ideas and fantasy elements. He set me off on a journey. Talismaan is a love story, a fantasy and uses magic. It has a unique Indianness and yet is modern and contemporary. It’s time we had a fantasy film we can call our own and one we can be proud off. Talismaan is my attempt to do just that.”
When quizzed about rumours about Talismaan being shelved because of its costly budget, Ram states, “If the film was shelved, believe me I would be the first to know. We are proceeding as per schedule. The film is very heavy on special effects etc and therefore a lot of time is being spent on pre-production. The storyboarding, concept art etc, requires detailing and research. It’s not a film you write the script for and then go on the floors to shoot it straightaway,” he concludes.
