Superstar Rajinikanth and the producers of 'Kuselan' have reportedly come forward to compensate the losses, paying heed to the demands of the Exhibitors who had acquired the release rights of the film.

Reports indicate they have come to a decision to compensate Rs. Seven Crores, which would be divided among the Exhibitors based on the amount they had paid to bag the theatrical rights of 'Kuselan'.

Meanwhile, in order to compensate the loss faced by the Master Distributor Pyramid Saimira, it is said that Rajini would act in a movie to be produced by them once Rajini completes 'Robot'.

However, this gesture has not been found reasonable by the Exhibitors' Association. The Association had a meeting after all these developments and came out with decisions regarding the unpleasant tussle. They want more money back as the Minimum Guarantee (MG) amount they had paid out was enormous.

The Secretary of the Exhibitors' Association Pannerselvam stated that if the loss is not compensated they would be forced to boycott the future films involving all those concerned.

Meanwhile, a few Exhibitors from Karnataka are presently in Chennai to meet the producers of 'Kuselan' and Rajinikanth to ask for compensation as the movie has reportedly not done well in that state as well.

Shah Rukh Khan got shocked when he heard that Superstar Rajnikant's Tamil film 'Kuselan' has been wrapped up and will be releasing in August.

Rajnikant's previous film 'Sivaji' although was a Tamil film managed to get unexpected attention of people from all over India.

So the producers of 'Kuselan' had planned to release the Hindi dubbed version at the same time when the movie hits the cinema halls in south.

'Kuselan' is the remake of the Malyalam hit film 'Katha Parayumbol' so is King Khan's forthcoming film 'Billoo Barber'.

Sharukh wanted to finish off the work of his film fast and get it released as a Diwali movie.

And he was also confident of getting his film first to the theaters.

Upon hearing that the Hindi version of 'Kuselan' will be reaching the theaters much before his film will get exposed, SRK panicked as if this happens the box office prospect of 'Billoo Barber' will get severely damaged due to having the same theme and story.

Adding more intensity to his tension was that in both the films, the lead actors appear in 20 different looks in a single song.

SRK had no other option than to make a call to the South Superstar and request him to change the north Indian release date of 'Kuselan'.

Rajnikant considered Sharukh's request and assured him that his film will get to the halls only after Diwali.

Rajinikanth.
Rajinikanth's P Vasu directed Kuselan has been purchased for a whopping Rs 60 crore by Pyramid Saimira, according to trade reports.

It is the biggest deal in South Indian Cinema in recent times and Pyramid Saimira Group Chairman P S Saminathan confirmed to Chennai Times that the group had bought all the rights of the film.

He, however, politely declined to confirm the price at which the deal had been struck. According to reports, there was a bidding war for the rights of the film which is a remake of the Malayalam super hit Katha Parayumbol and focusses on the bond between a superstar and a village barber who were childhood buddies.

Rajinikanth plays the role of the superstar made memorable by Mammootty in the original, while Pasupathy dons the barber's role.

Rajinikanth is doing an "extended cameo" as the story has been re-written by Vasu to suit the image of the Superstar.

He will appear along with Nayantara in two songs and many more scenes as the producers Kavithalaya wanted to market it as a Rajinikanth film.

Kavithalaya is the production company of Rajinikanth's guru and mentor K Balachander who is making it in association with Seven Arts’ Vijayakumar, who made the original in Malayalam.

There was a virtual bidding war between Pyramid Saimira and a Mumbai-based corporate for the rights of the film. The market is amazed that Kuselan in which Rajinikanth is making only a special appearance could fetch such a price.

Commenting on the huge deal, Saminathan said, "Rajini is India's Number one star, both in terms of popularity and in terms of the collections index. His market stretches across many countries and his opening is the biggest compared to any other star. He has a solid fan base and is the only hero who can count children, women, men, and teen as his audience. He is the only hero with class as well as mass appeal."
Throwing light on the marketing strategy they will implement for this film, he said, " We will market the film with proper carry, befitting the hero and opening.

We will do a proper controlled release and also have multiple revenue streams." If a "guest appearance" garners Rs 60 crore, imagine the price a full length Rajinikanth film like Robot can fetch in the open market.

Mammootty and Rajnikanth

It is official, Tamil superstar Rajniknath's next film is going to be Kuchelan, a Tamil remake of the Malayalam film Katha Parayumbol directed by M Mohanan that is making waves in Kerala.

Katha Parayumbol, written by Sreenivasan (he also acted in the film), one of the finest script writers in the country, was recently in Chennai to screen the film for Rajnikanth , his old classmate. The duo studied together at the Adyar Film Institute. Rajni, floored by its simplicity, wanted to act in the film.

One wonders whether Sreenivasan got the inspiration for the story from Rajni's life itself!

Anyway, the Malayalam original is about a two classmates -- Sreenivasan (barber) and Mammootty in a guest appearance as a superstar) who lose touch and come face to face after some years have passed. What the villagers in the barber's village don't know is that the barber once helped his classmate realise his dream of becoming a filmstar. Now, as the superstar comes to the village to shoot a film, news of their friendship spreads like wildfire.

The highlight of the film is the last thirty minutes of Mammootty's sterling performance.

Now, Rajni will take on Mammootty's role in the Tamil version aptly titled Kuchelan with reference to the lives of Lord Krishna and his poor friend Kuchelan.

Pasupathy, who made a great debut in Kamal's Virumaandi will act as the barber while Simran will take on Meena's role (barber's wife).

Co-produced by Seven Arts and K Balachander's Kavithalaya, the Tamil version will be directed by P Vasu, who remade Manichitrathazhu in Tamil as Chandramukhi.

P Vasu has clarified that he would make necessary changes with Tamil audience in mind like he did in Chandramukhi.

And whether this means that the guest role of the superstar will undergo a change, only time will tell.
